Sora App Launches in Thailand to Boost Creative Content
Thailand’s creators can now access the Sora app, marking its expansion into Asia. This move gives local users a chance to explore OpenAI’s latest AI video tool. The app’s arrival aims to foster more visual storytelling in a region already rich in creativity. Alongside Thailand, the app is also now available in Vietnam and Taiwan. Sora first launched in the US and Canada in early September, quickly gaining popularity with users sharing their clips. In less than five days, the app surpassed one million downloads, according to a social media post by Sora’s CEO, Bill Peebles. Thai users can download Sora for free on iOS without needing an invite code. For now, the app offers generous use limits, though these may change over time.
Innovative Features Powering Creativity
Sora is driven by Sora 2, a sophisticated video generation model. It allows users to create original clips, remix existing videos, and get content suggestions through a personalized feed. An exciting feature called Cameos lets users appear directly in scenes, after a quick identity check to confirm likeness. This feature has become popular among early testers because it adds a fun way to connect and interact with friends. The app also supports Thai language input, making it more accessible to local users.
Woody Milintachinda, a well-known Thai creator, shared his excitement about Sora. He said, “Sora allows me to bring ideas to life in a way that immediately resonates with audiences. They can see and feel the story unfold.” Milintachinda feels the platform offers a fresh space for sharing experiences and connecting with a broader community of creators and storytellers. The app’s ability to enhance storytelling through AI-generated content has been a key selling point.
New Character Cameos and Seasonal Content
With this launch, Sora introduces Character Cameos, a feature that allows users to turn almost anything into a reusable character. Users can upload a video of a character and set permissions, whether private, shared with followers, or public. Once created, these characters can appear in any future video, making the creative process more flexible. To celebrate Halloween, the app offers a special starter pack with classic characters like Dracula, Frankenstein’s monster, ghosts, witches, and Jack-O-Lanterns, encouraging festive content creation.
The company emphasizes responsible use of the app. Sora is designed to promote active creation rather than passive viewing, focusing on accounts users follow. Users retain control over their likeness when using Cameos, with options to restrict who can use their image or remove access at any time. Videos featuring a user’s likeness created by others remain visible to the user, ensuring privacy and control. The expansion into Thailand is seen as an exciting step for local creators, opening up endless possibilities for visual storytelling and innovation.
Overall, Sora’s arrival in Thailand is expected to energize the creative scene, offering tools that blend AI technology with personal expression. As the app continues to develop, it may reshape how creators produce and share video content across Asia and beyond.
