AI-driven cardiology company Ultromics has raised $55 million in a Series C funding round led by L&G, Allegis Capital, and Lightrock. Additional participants included Oxford Science Enterprises, GV, Blue Venture Fund, Oxford University, UCM Ventures (affiliated with UChicago Medicine), and UPMC Enterprises. The funding positions Ultromics for nationwide expansion across the U.S. healthcare market.

Addressing a Hidden Healthcare Crisis

Heart failure affects millions, leading to healthcare costs projected to surpass $70 billion annually by 2030 in the U.S. alone. A major challenge lies in detecting less obvious forms like Heart Failure with preserved Ejection Fraction (HFpEF) and cardiac amyloidosis, conditions frequently misdiagnosed due to limitations in traditional diagnostic methods.

“There’s a long-standing blind spot in cardiology where millions of patients with treatable heart failure are missed because their symptoms are subtle and echo images are hard to interpret. Ultromics’ platform brings AI and cardiology together in a way that makes it easier for physicians to identify high-risk patients earlier.”

Victor Westerlind, Managing Director at Allegis Capital

Scaling Diagnostic Innovation Nationwide

Ultromics plans to use the new funds primarily to expand the reach of its FDA-cleared, Medicare-reimbursed EchoGo® platform across U.S. hospitals and echo labs. EchoGo® aids clinicians in detecting HFpEF and cardiac amyloidosis through AI-driven analysis of routine echocardiograms, without requiring additional hardware.

The funds will also support further clinical innovation, including the recently FDA-cleared EchoGo® Amyloidosis and EchoGo® Score, a new AI-based probability scoring feature designed to enhance early detection and patient risk stratification.

Pioneering AI-Powered Heart Diagnostics

Founded at the University of Oxford, Ultromics was launched to transform echocardiographic diagnosis. Led by CEO and Founder Ross Upton, PhD, Ultromics leverages one of the largest global echo datasets, enhancing clinicians’ ability to detect subtle signs of complex heart diseases more accurately and promptly.

“By analyzing routine echocardiograms with AI, we’re helping clinicians identify high-risk patients earlier, enabling intervention before disease progresses.”

Ultromics differentiates itself by seamlessly integrating into existing clinical workflows, reducing unnecessary tests, and facilitating earlier intervention. The company has analyzed over 430,000 echocardiograms to date, with clinical studies showing a 73.6% improvement in HFpEF detection compared to standard methods.

Robust Investor Backing

The latest funding round brings together seasoned investors and healthcare institutions. Alastair Stewart from L&G highlighted the significance of this round, noting, “Ultromics has established itself as an early-mover in the large and underserved cardiovascular disease market.”

Umur Hursever from Lightrock echoed this sentiment, stating, “Ultromics’ AI-driven technology is already making a real-world impact, improving diagnostic accuracy, supporting clinical decisions, and expanding access to specialist care”

With collaborations already established with major institutions including Mayo Clinic, UChicago Medicine, University Hospitals Cleveland, and Northwestern, Ultromics is poised for significant growth.
