Firecrawl, a fast-growing developer platform for structured web data, has raised $14.5 million in an oversubscribed Series A round. The raise brings the company’s total funding to $16.2 million and was led by Nexus Venture Partners. Notable participants include Y Combinator, Shopify CEO Tobias Lütke, and existing and new angel investors.

With over 350,000 users already onboard and demand for real-time, clean data accelerating, Firecrawl plans to use the new capital to scale globally, double down on infrastructure and product development, and explore licensed partnerships with content owners.

Making AI Work with the Real-Time Web

Firecrawl operates in a rapidly evolving space where AI systems need fresh and structured web data to function effectively. Traditional scraping tools often fall short due to reliability issues and limitations with JavaScript-heavy content. Firecrawl aims to solve this with its proprietary Fire-Engine scraping technology, which the company says outperforms legacy tools in speed and success rate.

“Firecrawl is how AI developers access web data. The web holds most of human knowledge, but it’s messy, constantly changing, and hard to work with. Firecrawl makes that data accessible, structured, and ready for large language models.”

Caleb Peffer, Co-Founder & CEO

Companies like Zapier, Replit, and Shopify are already relying on Firecrawl to power chatbots, lead-gen tools, and research agents. By turning unstructured data into machine-readable formats, Firecrawl helps AI agents interact with the web in real-time.

What the New Funding Will Enable

A key focus will be scaling Fire-Engine globally for improved speed and reliability. The company claims it already delivers structured data 33% faster and with 40% higher success rates than competitors, and now aims to cut response times even further for enterprise customers worldwide.

Beyond technical improvements, Firecrawl also plans to ship new features like smarter extraction tools, batch data gathering, and change monitoring—all designed to improve how AI systems interact with dynamic web content.

Another important direction: building a sustainable economic model around AI and web content. Firecrawl is exploring licensed partnerships with publishers, so that when AI uses paywalled content, creators benefit directly. “This isn’t just about technology, it’s about building the right incentives,” the company noted.

A Team Born from Frustration with Web Data

Firecrawl was founded in 2022 by Caleb Peffer, Eric Ciarla, and Nicolas Silberstein Camara. The trio previously worked on Mendable, an AI chat tool for documentation that gained traction with companies like Snapchat and MongoDB. But they quickly realized that AI’s biggest bottleneck wasn’t chat logic—it was reliable access to the web.

Their solution was to build Firecrawl: a single, open-source infrastructure layer to make the web programmable. Today, that bet has paid off, with over 43,000 GitHub stars and usage from top hedge funds to Fortune 500s.

Firecrawl offers a plug-and-play API that lets developers extract clean data from any webpage. With search, intelligent crawling, and semantic extraction, it’s become a go-to toolkit for anyone building AI agents or automation tools.

Backed by AI Builders and Users Alike

Firecrawl’s investor roster combines top institutional and strategic backers. Nexus Venture Partners led the round, with Managing Director Abhishek Sharma calling Firecrawl a platform that “delivers clean, comprehensive web data simply, reliably, and at scale.”

Other participants include:

  • Y Combinator (existing investor)
  • Shopify CEO Tobias Lütke
  • Zapier (a Firecrawl customer turned investor)
  • Abhinav Asthana, CEO of Postman
  • Matt McClure, Founder of Mux

Angel investors and funds from both the developer and AI communities also joined the round, supporting Firecrawl’s vision of universal web access for AI systems.
