Google pulls early version of Pixel 10’s Daily Hub AI feature
Google has decided to temporarily remove the Daily Hub feature from its latest Pixel 10 phones. The feature, part of over 20 new AI tools announced with the Pixel 10 series, was meant to offer personalized updates throughout the day. However, just a few weeks after launch, Google has paused it to make improvements. The company promises it will return once it’s better and more refined.
What was the Daily Hub and why was it pulled?
The Daily Hub was designed to give users a quick snapshot of their day. It appeared at the top of Google Discover and in the At a Glance widget on the home screen. Google explained that the feature was paused to improve its performance and personalization. The idea was to create a smart, on-device AI that could process your personal data without sending it to the cloud. But in practice, the feature didn’t perform as expected.
Many users noticed that Daily Hub didn’t offer much beyond basic weather updates, a few suggested videos, and AI search prompts. When it tried to pull calendar data, it often confused shared calendars—like nail appointments on a spouse’s calendar—as personal data. This made the feature more of a nuisance than a helpful tool. After the early rollout, many found it didn’t add enough value to justify its presence.
How does Daily Hub compare to similar features?
Google isn’t alone in trying to create a daily insights tool. Samsung has its Now Brief, which pulls in data from apps to give a quick overview of your day. But Samsung’s feature tends to stick to simple things like weather and reminders. Google’s Daily Hub was supposed to do more—analyzing your calendar, search history, and app usage to give a personalized digest.
But in testing, Daily Hub often fell short. It rarely showed anything beyond basic weather updates, suggested videos, or search prompts. When it did access calendar info, it couldn’t tell apart shared calendars from personal ones, making the information less useful. This resulted in multiple notifications throughout the day that felt more like spam than helpful insights.
Why is Google pausing the feature now?
The decision to pause Daily Hub is part of Google’s cautious approach. Since the feature processes sensitive data locally on the Pixel’s Tensor chip, it’s supposed to be more private. But the tech still needs to get smarter. Google wants to improve how Daily Hub understands personal data and provides relevant suggestions without confusing shared info or offering useless updates.
This move shows Google’s commitment to quality over speed. The company understands that users want features that actually work and are worth their time. For now, Daily Hub is on hold, but Google says it’s actively working on improvements. When ready, they plan to reintroduce an enhanced version that hopefully will deliver on the promise of personalized, on-device AI insights.
Closing the door on an early preview of Daily Hub doesn’t mean Google is giving up on personal AI. Instead, it highlights the challenges of building useful, private, on-device AI features that can truly understand individual users. We’ll have to wait and see if Google can turn this promising idea into a helpful everyday tool in the future.
