Iru’s Big Shift to Cross-Platform Management
Adam Pettit, CEO of Iru, explains that their platform is no longer just about Apple. It now offers mobile device management (MDM) capabilities for Windows and Android devices. This means that companies can oversee endpoint security, device management, vulnerability checks, and response actions across all three platforms—Apple, Windows, and Android.
Despite expanding to other operating systems, Pettit emphasizes that their commitment to Apple remains strong. Customers who want to manage and secure Apple devices will still find Iru’s solutions top of the line. The new features are designed to help organizations with mixed-device environments, making management simpler and more unified.
The Business Logic Behind Opening Up
Pettit notes that more companies are shifting toward Apple devices. Over the past year or two, the percentage of Macs in many workplaces has doubled—rising from around 20-30% to 50-60%. Yet, most organizations still use other systems too. Over 80% of Iru’s existing customers manage non-Apple devices with other tools, like Microsoft Intune.
Every week, new customers ask for Windows support, showing a clear demand for cross-platform management. Interestingly, Iru allows IT admins to turn off Windows and Android support if those devices aren’t used, keeping the interface clean and focused on what’s needed.
What the Iru Platform Can Do
Iru’s platform is built around something called the Iru Context Model. Think of it as a live map that shows users, apps, devices, policies, and events in real time. Iru’s AI then analyzes this data to generate insights, automate actions, and provide audit-ready reports that traditional tools can’t match.
The platform includes several key services. First, Workforce Identity offers password-free single sign-on with hardware-backed passkeys and context-aware access to apps. Next, Endpoint Management helps onboard devices, apply updates, and enforce policies across Apple, Windows, and Android—all managed through a lightweight agent.
There’s also Endpoint Detection and Response, which uses machine learning to detect threats and automatically contain or fix issues. Vulnerability Management gives full visibility into software risks on Macs and Windows, with AI-driven responses. Lastly, Compliance Automation provides a portal to share security reports and certifications easily.
Making Security and Management Simpler with AI
Pettit says Iru aims to simplify complex IT stacks. “We’re collapsing the entire management and security stack into one platform,” he explains. The goal is to give IT teams more control and less hassle. Kandji’s success was rooted in elegance—using automation and abstraction to make device management straightforward. Now, with Iru, that philosophy has evolved into a comprehensive, AI-driven system.
The platform’s deep abstraction allows admins to perform tasks like encrypting devices or deploying policies with just a few clicks. They don’t need to worry about underlying protocols or technical details. This makes it easier to tailor controls and respond quickly to threats or compliance needs.
Breaking Down Silos in IT and Security
Another trend Pettit highlights is the merging of traditionally separate teams—IT, security, and compliance. Many organizations use dozens of point tools that don’t communicate well, leading to fractured workflows and a lot of manual effort.
Iru aims to unify these functions into a single platform, giving teams a shared view of their environment. Pettit points out that this convergence helps reduce redundant work and increases efficiency. Instead of juggling multiple tools and data silos, organizations get a clearer picture and faster responses.
The platform is now available for new customers, and existing Kandji users will be transitioned smoothly. Iru also offers support for migrating from other systems, making the switch easier.
