Europe’s IT Spending to Soar with AI and Cloud Growth by 2026
Many companies in Europe are planning to spend more on technology in the next few years. According to Gartner, a research firm, European IT spending is set to reach around $1.4 trillion by 2026. That’s an 11% increase from current levels. This growth will mainly come from investments in artificial intelligence, cloud services, and cybersecurity. Even though budgets are tight and hiring is limited, companies are still pushing forward with tech upgrades.
Big Jump in AI and Cloud Spending
The spending on generative AI is expected to grow rapidly, by about 78%. This type of AI can create text, images, or even videos, making it very popular for businesses. Cloud computing investments will also increase significantly, by roughly 24%. Many companies are moving their services to Europe to keep control over their data and meet local rules. This shift is helping to boost the cloud sector’s growth across the continent.
Data Centers and Regional AI Control
Data center systems are seeing nearly a 19% rise in investment, with AI-optimized servers getting a lot of attention. Experts estimate that spending on these servers will hit around $46.8 billion. For comparison, China is investing about $67 billion, and North America is spending roughly $170 billion on similar technologies. Another important trend is regional AI lock-in. By 2027, Gartner predicts that about 35% of countries will be tied to AI platforms specific to their region. This is mainly driven by regulation, security concerns, and the desire for national control over data.
As companies continue to adopt and invest in AI, cloud computing, and security, Europe’s tech landscape is set to change dramatically. Despite budget constraints, businesses see the value in these areas and are making strategic moves to stay competitive. The push for regional control over AI platforms also indicates a shift towards more localized tech ecosystems, which could shape the future of digital innovation across Europe.
