F5 Networks has announced the release of BIG-IP v21.0, a major update designed to meet the demanding needs of AI-driven workloads. This new version offers a unified platform for application delivery, security, and scalability, specifically optimized for the modern AI era. By extending the capabilities of the F5 Application Delivery and Security Platform (ADSP), BIG-IP v21.0 introduces a purpose-built delivery engine that reduces operational complexity, accelerates data movement, and enhances performance across hybrid and multicloud environments.

Supporting AI Data Delivery and Security

With AI applications requiring high throughput and low latency data transfer, BIG-IP v21.0 includes enhancements such as new S3 data storage integrations. These enable secure ingestion for fine-tuning and batch inference, high-throughput retrieval for retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and embeddings, as well as policy-driven distribution of model artifacts with full observability and security controls.

Additionally, the platform supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP), facilitating seamless communication between AI models, applications, and data sources. This support accelerates AI workloads, improves connection security, and simplifies deployment processes, ensuring AI systems operate efficiently and securely at scale.

Enhanced Control Plane Performance

BIG-IP v21.0 introduces significant improvements to the control plane, boosting reliability and enabling faster configuration changes. These enhancements are critical for managing large, complex hybrid environments and support high-scale AI operations by increasing throughput and operational agility.

According to F5’s State of Application Strategy Report 2025, 94% of organizations deploy applications across multiple environments, highlighting the complexity of modern infrastructure. BIG-IP v21.0 aims to address these challenges by delivering a resilient, high-performance platform tailored for the evolving demands of AI workloads.

F5 encourages customers to begin planning their migration to BIG-IP v21.0 to take full advantage of its AI-ready features, ensuring they can deliver secure, high-performance applications in the AI era. This release represents F5’s commitment to supporting innovative, data-intensive AI applications with robust delivery and security solutions.
