The semiconductor industry is on the cusp of a new era, with demands for next-generation memory and logic driving innovation at an unprecedented pace. To meet these needs, chipmakers are turning to advanced technologies like superlattices, but measuring their internal structures requires precise tools.

Rigaku Corporation has responded to this challenge by launching the XTRAIA XD-3300, a cutting-edge metrology system that can accurately assess the composition and thickness of silicon-germanium films. This system is the result of years of research and development, with every component designed and built in-house.

The key to the XTRAIA XD-3300’s performance lies in its original X-ray optical system, which combines ultra-high-performance mirrors with bent crystals to achieve speeds up to 100 times faster than previous products. This means that complex diffraction measurements can be completed in just a few minutes, rather than several hours.

But what does this mean for the industry? With the XTRAIA XD-3300, chipmakers can now control their internal structures with unprecedented accuracy, leading to improved product performance and yield. Rigaku expects sales of this product to exceed ¥1 billion in FY2025, with plans to deliver multiple systems to global semiconductor manufacturers.

As Kiyoshi Ogata, Senior Executive Vice President and Product Division General Manager, notes: “XTRAIA XD-3300 represents the crystallization of Rigaku’s leading-edge technologies. We’re confident that this system will play a major role in shaping the future of the semiconductor industry.”

Expanding Capacity and Scaling Up Sales

Rigaku has already taken steps to meet growing demand, with the completion of a new factory building and an increase in production booths from 10 to 15. By Q4 FY2025, the company expects to deliver multiple XTRAIA XD-3300 systems to major semiconductor manufacturers.

Looking ahead to FY2030, Rigaku aims to reach ¥10 billion in sales, with the XTRAIA XD-3300 at the forefront of their growth strategy. As the industry continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible, one thing is clear: Rigaku’s innovative metrology system is poised to play a major role in shaping the future of chip design.

The XTRAIA XD-3300 is more than just a product – it represents a new era in semiconductor manufacturing. With its unparalleled speed and accuracy, this system has the potential to unlock new levels of performance and yield, driving innovation and growth throughout the industry.
