Europe’s Answer to Microsoft 365: Can Nextcloud Bridge the Digital Divide?
As concerns about digital sovereignty and data control grow in Europe, a German company is positioning itself as a viable alternative to US-owned cloud providers like Microsoft 365. Nextcloud, a productivity and collaboration software vendor, has been gaining traction with its open-source service, which allows customers to host their own data and infrastructure.
Nextcloud’s Ambitious Plan
Working with Ionos, a German data center hosting company, Nextcloud plans to launch an open-source service that it claims will offer a more secure and controlled alternative to popular US-based software-as-a-service (SaaS) products. The new service, called Nextcloud Workspace, is set to launch on November 4th and promises to bring the best of both worlds: ease of use and European control.
Nextcloud’s CEO and cofounder, Frank Karlitschek, believes that their product has the potential to bridge the digital divide between large organizations and smaller businesses.
