The 2026 list of the best places to work in IT has just been announced. This special report highlights the top companies, key trends from this year’s survey, and more insights into what makes these workplaces stand out. Fans of the program can also look forward to details about the 2027 edition as it gets underway.

How the Best Places to Work in IT Are Chosen

Every year, Computerworld conducts a survey to find out which companies are the best for IT professionals. Anyone can nominate a company they think deserves recognition, including their own employer. Once nominated, companies that meet certain criteria are invited to participate in the survey.

The program has a long history, spanning over 32 years in the United States, and it’s now expanding globally. Companies are assessed based on their size, with categories for large firms (5,000+ employees), midsize businesses (1,001-4,999 employees), and small companies (100-1,000 employees). To qualify, a company must have at least five IT staff members and a total of 100 employees or more.

Who Qualifies and How to Participate

IT staff included in the survey are those who provide technology support and services either within their own company or to multiple clients through an IT service provider. Staff involved in administrative support, communications, PR related to IT, contractors, or product development for outside sales are not counted.

The program is open to companies worldwide, but they can submit only one survey per country. If a company operates in several countries, it can choose to submit for specific locations by noting the country in the company name. If no location is specified, it’s assumed the entry covers all locations globally.

Generally, the parent company should apply, but subsidiaries or affiliates can also qualify if they operate independently with separate leadership and functions. In some cases, a subsidiary may apply separately if its parent is a holding company. The process involves filling out a nomination form, and the research team will review each case individually.

Frequently Asked Questions and Additional Details

Companies do not need to be nominated to take part in the survey. They are free to participate regardless of whether they were nominated or not. The program aims to identify workplaces that excel in supporting IT professionals, regardless of their size or location.

For questions about eligibility, the nomination process, or submitting a survey, companies can contact the Best Places team via email. The program continues to recognize excellence in the IT industry and encourages companies around the world to showcase their workplace culture and employment practices.
