Advantech has announced its latest robotics development kit, the MIC-742-AT, which is built around powerful NVIDIA Jetson Thor modules. This new platform aims to push the limits of robotics and AI at the edge, offering high-performance computing in a compact design. It’s designed for a range of advanced applications, from humanoid robots to autonomous vehicles and surgical systems.

Powerful Hardware for Cutting-Edge Robotics

The MIC-742-AT stands out with its impressive AI capabilities, delivering up to 2,070 FP4 TFLOPS of performance thanks to the NVIDIA Jetson Thor module. It also features 128GB of high-speed LPDDR5X memory, ensuring smooth processing of complex data. The platform is built to operate reliably in industrial environments, with a wide temperature range from -10°C to 60°C.

This robust hardware makes the kit suitable for demanding robotics tasks. Its small form factor allows it to fit into tight spaces, which is essential for many robotic designs. It also supports 8-channel GMSL 2.0, enabling fast, seamless connection to multiple high-speed sensors. This setup allows robots to process sensor data in real time, improving responsiveness and decision-making.

Enhanced Connectivity and Sensor Integration

The platform is designed to work smoothly with modern industrial networking standards. It supports Ethernet packet-based transmission, allowing developers to stream sensor data directly into the GPU memory using NVIDIA GPUDirect RDMA. This approach helps eliminate CPU bottlenecks, reducing latency, and speeding up AI inferences.

To help developers build even smarter robots, Advantech offers optional accessories like the Holoscan Sensor Bridge and a high-speed switch. These add-ons enable precise synchronization of data from multiple sensors, including stereo cameras, lidar, radar, ultrasound, and IMUs. By aligning sensor data accurately and quickly, AI models can make better, more reliable decisions based on real-time perception.

These accessories are easy to integrate with the MIC-742-AT, expanding its capabilities without adding complexity. This flexibility makes the platform a future-proof choice for robotics developers looking to incorporate multimodal sensing and advanced AI processing into their projects.

The MIC-742-AT Robotics Development Kit is set to be available in September 2025. It promises to provide developers with a state-of-the-art platform for creating the next generation of intelligent robots. With its high-performance hardware and flexible connectivity options, it aims to accelerate innovation in AI-driven automation and robotics applications.
