Inside the Bizarre World of the Zizians and Their Violent Crimes

Things got very strange at a court hearing in California involving a group called the Zizians. This group is linked to serious crimes, but their bizarre behavior turned the courtroom into something more like a circus. The case involves two co-defendants, Alex “Somni” Leatham and Suri Dao, who are accused of attacking their former landlord with a katana over a rent dispute. The landlord was blinded in the attack, which is just one of several violent incidents tied to the group.

The Zizians are led by Jack “Ziz” LaSota, a charismatic vegan who wears a cape and claims to want to save the world from killer AI. But behind the scenes, they are connected to multiple violent crimes, including the murder of their landlord, who was shot during an altercation. The landlord was also killed earlier this year by someone else connected to the group, who was set to testify against the defendants. This tangled web of violence has drawn a lot of attention.

Chaos in the Courtroom

During the pretrial hearing, Leatham, who is a transgender woman, started yelling loudly. She insisted she was innocent and accused the court of trying to target transgender people. She shouted about her treatment in custody, claiming prison guards are denying her hormone therapy, which is an issue many trans prisoners face despite recent court rulings requiring access to hormone treatment. Her shouting matched a pattern — she repeated her accusations more than ten times before guards escorted her out.

While being removed, Leatham also demanded a new public defender. The reasons for her dissatisfaction with her lawyer aren’t clear, but reports say she accused the prosecutor of misconduct for not sharing documents she needed to plan her personal trip. Her outburst delayed the hearing, which was then rescheduled for September 24. It was the first time she saw her co-defendant, Dao, in six months.

The Bigger Picture: More Crimes and Cult Connections

The story doesn’t stop with California. Just a day after the court chaos, another Zizian — Teresa Youngblut — appeared in a Vermont court. She pleaded not guilty to charges related to the shooting death of a Border Patrol agent, David Maland. The incident happened near the Canadian border in January, and she is accused of killing Maland and injuring two other agents. Federal prosecutors are seeking the death penalty if she’s convicted.

Interestingly, Jack LaSota has not been charged with any murders so far. The crimes linked to the group include the killing of two parents in Pennsylvania and the shooting of a German trader, Ophelia Bauckholt, who was traveling with Youngblut. All these violent acts suggest that the Zizians are involved in far more than just their ideological pursuits.

What’s Next for the Zizians?

The group’s leader, LaSota, has made headlines for defending their actions. She claims she did nothing wrong and has even expressed a desire for vegan food while in jail. The whole case raises questions about how a group led by a charismatic figure can turn into a violent cult involved in multiple murders and shootings.

As the legal process continues, it’s clear that the Zizians are more than just a quirky group of believers. Their story is one of chaos, violence, and complex legal battles. With multiple defendants facing serious charges, authorities will have to untangle a web of crimes that span several states. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the most unusual groups can hide very dark secrets.
