What Amazon Q Developer Can Do Today
One of the biggest improvements is its ability to generate entire functions in popular programming languages with minimal tweaks. This means developers can get code suggestions that are almost ready to use, saving time on routine tasks like completing lines of code, creating documentation strings, or writing common code blocks such as if, for, while, and try statements.

However, setting up and configuring tools and MCP servers isn’t always user-friendly. The platform supports running tools and projects in isolated environments, but the implementation isn’t the most seamless, making it harder for users to get everything working smoothly. Still, Amazon Q Developer remains useful, and there’s hope AWS will improve these areas soon.

Notably, its command-line tool, previously called Q CLI, has been rebranded as Kiro CLI, now at version 1.20.
