Why Apple Is Outpacing Other PC Makers in Growth This Year
It’s interesting to see how Apple is making big moves in the PC world right now. Recently, analysts at Canalys reported that Apple experienced the highest annual growth among all PC manufacturers in the second quarter. While most of the industry saw shipments decline, Apple and Lenovo were the only ones to grow in the US desktop and laptop markets.
Apple’s Surprising Growth in a Shrinking Market
Overall, PC shipments dropped by about 1.4% compared to last year. That’s not great news for most makers. Acer and others outside the top five saw declines of around 10%. But Apple managed to grow its sales by 15.5%, which is a huge jump. Lenovo also saw some growth, about 5.1%, but it’s nowhere near Apple’s leap.
This growth is partly tied to the end of support for Windows 10. Many users were expected to buy new PCs to run Windows 11, but instead, many are choosing different options. Some are sticking with Windows but upgrading to new machines, while others are switching platforms altogether. Apple seems to be winning some of those switchers. In fact, Apple now accounts for over 12% of all desktop and notebook sales in the US.
Why AI and Enterprise Are Boosting Apple’s PC Sales
Another reason for Apple’s rise is the growing role of artificial intelligence. Apple’s systems, like the MacBook Pro, are powerful enough to run some large language models right out of the box. Plus, Apple is working with third-party AI services while also developing its own. That could give Apple a leg up when AI becomes more integrated into everyday work and play.
Even with some hiccups in developing its AI platform, Apple still has chances to grow in this area. The company plans to introduce more smart, AI-powered features soon. Privacy is a big selling point here, especially for big companies that want AI tools that keep data secure. Many enterprises are already beefing up their Mac fleets, and that trend looks set to continue.
Long-Term Opportunities and the Future of Apple PCs
Despite economic challenges that slow down consumer sales, Apple is shifting focus to enterprise customers. This makes sense as many people hold onto their devices longer. Apple’s reputation for durable, long-lasting products helps here. Used Apple devices still hold their value, which encourages more people and companies to buy them.
Recently, affordable, AI-capable Macs like the M4 MacBook Air can be found for as little as $799. There are rumors about Apple releasing a new sub-$500 Mac notebook using iPhone chips, which could further boost sales. The company’s focus on security, longevity, and price competitiveness makes it a strong contender in the PC industry now.
Looking ahead, the momentum is clear. Apple keeps growing faster than the industry average. Its machines are increasingly used for serious work, not just as “toys.” The shift to AI and enterprise adoption offers new opportunities. As Steve Jobs once said, most big successes take time. Today, Apple’s long-term efforts are paying off, and the company is reshaping the PC market in its favor.
