Cloudflare has introduced a new way for AI agents to handle cloud setup tasks on their own. Starting today, these autonomous agents can create accounts, subscribe to plans, register domains, and receive API tokens all without constant human involvement. Users must agree to the company’s terms of service first, but after that, the AI takes over, making the process seamless and hands-free. This move aims to streamline app deployment but also raises questions about security and oversight.

How the New Autonomous Cloud Setup Works

With the new system, AI agents can sign up for a Cloudflare account, start a paid subscription, and register a domain automatically. They are issued an API token that allows them to deploy code immediately. Human users only need to give initial consent; after that, the agent operates behind the scenes, handling everything from provisioning to deployment. This setup is designed to make launching new apps quick and efficient, especially for developers and startups looking to scale rapidly.

The process is built on a new protocol Cloudflare co-developed with Stripe. This protocol integrates with Cloudflare’s Code Mode MCP server and Agent Skills, enabling platforms with signed-in users to connect effortlessly. Users can simply log into their existing accounts, and if their email matches their Cloudflare account, an OAuth flow begins. Otherwise, Cloudflare automatically creates an account for them, allowing the agent to proceed without manual intervention.

Integration with Stripe and Cloudflare’s Cloud Services

The system is part of Stripe Projects, currently in beta, which allows users to manage multiple cloud services from a command line interface. These services include popular platforms like AgentMail, Supabase, Hugging Face, and Twilio. Users can generate credentials, oversee usage, and handle billing all through a CLI, simplifying what used to be a complex process.

Each agent starts with a $100 monthly spending limit per provider, giving them the flexibility to set up and deploy without immediate payment concerns. To get started, users install the Stripe CLI with the Stripe Projects plugin, log into Stripe, and create a new project. They can then instruct the agent to build a website or app, which is deployed on a new domain registered through Cloudflare. During deployment, the agent may prompt for input, especially if there’s no linked payment method, but overall, the process is designed to be as automatic as possible.

Once the app is live, it runs on the newly registered domain, with minimal human interaction needed. Cloudflare notes that the agent can go from nothing to full deployment in a matter of moments. To encourage adoption, the company is offering $100,000 in credits through Stripe Atlas, which helps startups incorporate, set up banking, and fundraise, making it easier for new companies to leverage this autonomous setup.

This new capability signals a significant shift in how cloud services can be managed. While it offers speed and efficiency, experts warn about the risks of over-trusting autonomous tools. Security professionals point out that malicious actors could exploit such automation to rapidly set up new infrastructure for attacks or scams, especially as criminals adapt to new defenses. As David Shipley from Beauceron Security explains, making it easier to deploy infrastructure quickly can benefit both legitimate users and bad actors alike.

Overall, Cloudflare’s move to empower AI agents with full autonomy over cloud provisioning marks a step toward more automated, self-sufficient cloud environments. Whether this accelerates innovation or introduces new security challenges, it’s clear that the landscape of cloud management is evolving fast. Businesses and developers will need to weigh the benefits of speed against the importance of maintaining safeguards and oversight.
