Broadcom’s New Data Lakehouse Aims to Simplify Enterprise AI

It also provides full data lineage, which helps track where data comes from and how it’s changing, making data more transparent and easier to manage.
This new data platform supports a wide range of use cases. Companies can use it for transactional systems, smart applications that act on data, decision-making tools, or training and tuning AI models. For AI specifically, it includes native vector search at scale. That means it can run SQL queries and find similar data points across large sets of vectorized data, all in one environment. The platform also integrates with Tanzu Data Platform, Broadcom’s broader data ecosystem.
What’s Inside Tanzu Data Intelligence?
Tanzu Data Intelligence isn’t just a single product. It’s made up of several components that work together. These include data ingestion and workflow orchestration, federated query services (which let you query data across different sources), container compute services, real-time data handling, and advanced analytics tools. These features are designed to make data management easier and more powerful, especially for AI projects that need quick, reliable access to data.
This platform is now available to customers, replacing the older Tanzu Data Suite. Many existing users of Greenplum or GemFire, Broadcom’s other data products, are expected to switch over. Kevin Strohmeyer, who is in charge of marketing for Broadcom’s Tanzu division, says this move shows Broadcom’s commitment to ongoing innovation. Despite some concerns about Broadcom’s ownership possibly stifling VMware’s development, Strohmeyer emphasizes that the company is still investing in these tools and features.

Experts see Tanzu Data Intelligence as a big step forward for companies trying to get a handle on their data and AI projects. Matt Kimball from Moor Insights says that even though there were worries about Broadcom slowing down VMware’s innovation, this new platform indicates that VMware’s efforts are still going strong. He believes that organizations already invested in Tanzu for container management will find this new data platform especially useful. Data management is a big part of AI success, and having a seamless, scalable platform makes a difference.
John Annand from Info-Tech Research Group points out that many companies have been experimenting with AI but aren’t seeing clear results yet. He notes that 65% of companies expect to customize AI models in 2025, which shows how complex the work has become. The variety of tools and methods used by different teams can make governance and scaling a nightmare. If Broadcom’s platform can bring order and speed to this chaos, it could help companies see a return on their AI investments and justify higher subscription costs.
New Features with Tanzu Platform 10.3
At the same event, Broadcom announced Tanzu Platform 10.3, which adds new features to help companies develop and deploy AI apps more easily. One of the highlights is the AI Starter Kit, an architecture that provides a blueprint for AI projects. This kit is useful for organizations using older versions of the platform too.
The new version makes it simpler for developers to share applications, AI agents, and servers through a governed marketplace. This means one team can build an AI model or app and others can use it without starting from scratch. They’ve also made it easier to manage different models by expanding the number of options and improving security and predictability. Additionally, the platform now offers tools to automate the modernization of older applications, a security vulnerability dashboard, and better observability of data services.
Purnima Padmanabhan, Broadcom’s VP overseeing Tanzu, explains that these updates focus on reducing the complexity of managing infrastructure. By handling the low-level server and network work, the platform allows developers and IT teams to focus more on building and improving AI applications. Kimball from Moor Insights adds that these improvements help streamline the often tedious and time-consuming parts of managing AI and data workflows.
