Browser-Based 3D MBD Models Transform Industry Collaboration
Capvidia is changing the way manufacturers and suppliers work together. They’ve developed a new way to share 3D product models that anyone can access online. This makes collaboration easier, faster, and more accurate across the industry.
Introducing Browser-Based 3D MBD Models
Capvidia’s latest innovation is a platform that lets users view 3D models with detailed manufacturing information through a web browser. These models are linked to industry standards like QIF and STEP AP242, meaning they follow common formats used in manufacturing. The models are generated directly from popular CAD software such as Creo, CATIA, SOLIDWORKS, and Autodesk, then published as interactive HTML files or PDFs.
This approach allows anyone with a modern browser to access and view the models without needing specialized CAD software. The interactive 3D view shows the product’s features, dimensions, tolerances, and manufacturing instructions clearly. This helps teams like procurement, manufacturing, quality, and shop floor staff to understand the product better and work more efficiently.
Benefits for Suppliers and Quality Teams
One major advantage is that suppliers no longer need to have expensive CAD software to see detailed product information. They can simply open the model on any device, including tablets or kiosks, and get a clear view of the design. This makes quoting and planning much quicker because they can see the features, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), and tolerances directly in 3D.
Another benefit is that linking QIF and STEP files directly to the native CAD models helps preserve the original design intent. This reduces errors that often happen when interpreting specifications or PMI (Product Manufacturing Information). Suppliers can click on individual characteristics on the bill of features and jump straight to the relevant PMI on the model, streamlining quality checks and inspections.
The browser-based models are also designed for shop-floor use. Users can zoom in, cut sections, filter PMI data, and run the models on tablets or kiosks. This makes real-time traceability and quality control much easier. Plus, linked QIF data speeds up processes like first article inspections and production part approvals, keeping everything audit-ready and compliant.
Driving Industry-Wide Collaboration
Capvidia’s goal is to make collaboration between OEMs and suppliers simpler and more effective. By providing universally accessible MBD models that can be shared online, teams can work together more seamlessly. The combination of standards-based data and interactive browser views helps speed up quoting, programming, and quality assurance tasks while reducing mistakes.
According to Capvidia’s CEO, Tomasz Luniewski, the company aims to close communication gaps in the supply chain. “Making MBD accessible through interactive browser-based models linked to industry standards allows everyone to see the same information clearly,” he explains. This shared understanding leads to fewer errors and smoother workflows across the industry.
With this new technology, manufacturers and suppliers can expect faster turnaround times, more accurate communication, and better quality control. It’s a step toward a more connected, efficient manufacturing ecosystem where information flows freely and accurately, no matter where teams are located.
