Classic Metro Games Re-Released DRM-Free on GOG
Fans of the Metro series now have a new way to experience the original games. GOG has added the classic versions of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light to its digital store. These versions are the ones that launched before the remastered editions, giving players a chance to see how the series started.
Original Versions Now Available
The original Metro 2033 first came out in 2010, followed by Metro: Last Light in 2013. Both titles are now part of GOG’s preservation effort, which aims to keep older games accessible. While remastered versions came out in 2014, fans have been asking for the originals to be available again.
Developers at 4A Games have updated these versions to run smoothly on modern systems. They added support for Windows 10 and 11, improved resolution options, and optimized framerates. Controller support was also expanded, making these classics more playable on current hardware.
Affordable and DRM-Free
Getting the original Metro games on GOG is now more affordable than ever. Both titles are on sale at 70% off until May 28, priced at just over three dollars each. As with all GOG games, they are DRM-free, meaning no digital rights management restrictions. Players can install and back up the games freely.
This is a great opportunity for new players to experience the series in its original form. It also offers longtime fans a chance to revisit the early days of the franchise in a more authentic way. The developers even teased a new game, Metro 2039, expected to arrive this winter, keeping the series alive for future adventures.
Overall, this move by GOG helps preserve gaming history and provides affordable access to classic titles. Fans and newcomers alike can now enjoy the gritty, atmospheric world of Metro in its earliest form, with all the enhancements for modern PCs.
