Pandey says that with Computer, companies can build AI agents and skills on top of this unified data. These agents act like virtual assistants, answering questions, automating tasks, and helping workers navigate the complex web of information. The interface is conversational, so users can ask questions naturally, rather than digging through complicated databases. The system also adds its own reasoning and organization, making the data even easier to understand.
Breaking Down Data Silos and Creating a Living Knowledge Network
Most big tech companies, including Google, Microsoft, and Box, have rolled out AI features recently. These tools can research and add context to unstructured data, helping users find what they need faster. But Pandey believes DevRev’s approach goes even further. Instead of just connecting systems, Computer aims to replace traditional apps altogether. It’s designed to be platform-agnostic, meaning it treats all AI tools equally and doesn’t lock users into specific vendors or data sources.
A key part of this is a technology called AirSync. Think of it as a high-speed courier for data, moving information both ways between different systems and the central knowledge graph. This graph is like a living map of all the relationships within the company—covering teams, customers, and products. It’s built automatically as data flows through the system, creating a dynamic network that constantly updates itself.
Workers interact with this network through simple tools like search engines, SQL queries, or a special gateway called MCP (Model Context Protocol). Automated tools, called orchestrators, keep data flowing smoothly, while AI agents use reasoning to automate workflows and answer questions through a chat-like interface. Interestingly, the system runs many queries directly on workers’ devices, making it faster and cheaper without relying solely on cloud servers.
Easy Setup and a Future Like a Smart Assistant
Getting started with Computer is straightforward. Pandey says it takes just a few lines of code—about seven—to add it to a company’s web portal or app. Once installed, employees can use it through a desktop app that updates automatically. Initially, users see a simple search bar, but over time it evolves into a ChatGPT-style chat interface, making interactions even more natural.
DevRev also offers a marketplace with pre-built connectors to popular software systems. This means companies can quickly integrate their existing tools and start pulling in data. All the automation and AI workflows are published through the MCP protocol, which acts like a universal language for AI agents. This setup ensures that the system is flexible and doesn’t lock users into a single platform.
The name “Computer” was inspired by a 1967 article by Peter Drucker. In it, Drucker joked about the computer as a “moron,” a humorous way to think about early ideas of machine intelligence. Pandey notes that today’s Computer is not here to replace humans but to act as a smarter, more helpful version of that “moron”—a tool that makes work easier without threatening jobs.
In essence, DevRev’s Computer is pushing the idea of a truly connected enterprise.
