Pop star Dua Lipa has filed a lawsuit against Samsung, accusing the electronics giant of using her face to promote their TVs without her permission or compensation. The legal action claims that Samsung used her image on packaging and advertising materials, which she says infringes on her rights. This case highlights ongoing issues around image rights and commercial exploitation in the tech industry.

Details of the Lawsuit

The lawsuit was first reported by Variety and centers on Samsung’s use of a photograph of Lipa on the packaging of some of their TV models. The image was taken backstage at the Austin City Limits Festival in 2024. Lipa’s team discovered the use of her image around June 2025 and demanded that Samsung cease using it. Despite these requests, the company continued to sell products featuring her likeness.

According to the legal complaint, Samsung’s response was dismissive, and they did not stop using her image. The lawsuit states that Samsung has profited from her likeness, creating the impression that she endorses their products. Lipa’s lawyers argue that this unauthorized use has damaged her brand and ability to control her image and earnings.

Legal Claims and Copyright Issues

The complaint accuses Samsung of copyright and trademark infringement, as well as “unauthorized commercial exploitation.” Lipa’s team claims she owns the copyright to the photograph used on the TV boxes, asserting that she took the picture backstage at the festival. This strengthens her argument that Samsung used her image without proper rights or permission.

Beyond the copyright issue, the lawsuit also mentions that some customers believed Lipa was endorsing the TVs, which could mislead consumers and harm her reputation. The legal filing seeks $15 million in damages for the unauthorized use and exploitation of her likeness, along with a court order to stop Samsung from using her image further.

This isn’t Samsung’s first legal trouble related to their smart TVs. In December, the company was sued by Texas’ attorney general over allegations of using ad-targeting spyware on their devices. The ongoing legal issues reflect broader concerns about privacy and rights violations linked to Samsung’s products.

As of now, Samsung has not publicly responded to the lawsuit. The company is expected to review the claims and may choose to settle or defend itself in court. Fans and consumers will be watching to see how this case unfolds and what it could mean for celebrity rights and tech marketing practices in the future.
