New AI Image Editing Tools Boost Creativity in Figma

Figma continues to enhance its design platform with powerful new AI tools that make editing images quicker and easier. These updates aim to keep designers focused on their work without switching between different apps or tools. The new features are designed to help streamline workflows and improve the quality of visual assets directly within Figma.

Introducing AI-Powered Image Editing Features

Figma has announced three new AI tools for image editing: Erase Object, Isolate Object, and Expand Image. These tools are now grouped together in a new toolbar alongside existing options like Remove Background and Crop. The goal is to keep everything within Figma, so designers can work more efficiently on the canvas.

Erase Object lets users select any element in an image and remove it completely, with the background filling in automatically. Isolate Object, on the other hand, separates a selected element so it can be moved, edited, or adjusted without affecting the rest of the image. These tools are capable of generating realistic results, but designers can still refine images with precise controls for better outcomes.

Enhanced Control and Flexibility for Image Editing

Designers can make additional edits using simple text prompts, such as brightening a product or desaturating the background to make a main item stand out. Effects like blur, color correction, and shadow can also be applied to isolated objects, giving designers more creative options right within Figma.

Another useful feature is Expand Image. This tool is ideal for adapting visuals across different formats. For example, it can extend the background of an image to fit a new aspect ratio without distorting the original content. This is especially helpful when resizing images for social media or marketing campaigns, ensuring they look good across all platforms.

All Tools in One Place for Better Workflow

One of the main reasons for these updates is that users often receive images from various sources in different formats and qualities. Maintaining a consistent look is important for branding, especially at scale. The new toolbar makes it easier to access and use these AI features, grouping them together for quick access.

These tools are available now in Figma Design and Figma Draw. To use them, users need a full seat on a Professional, Organization, or Enterprise plan with AI features enabled. Figma also plans to expand these capabilities to more of its platform in the coming year, giving designers even more ways to create and refine visuals without leaving the app.
