This section will also feature “bait questions,” which are common follow-up queries, encouraging users to explore related subjects. Additionally, Google plans to include an “Expert Advice” section that pulls snippets from news, reviews, or discussions from forums and social media, each with a link to the full conversation.
Enhanced Transparency and User Interaction
Besides linking to more sources, Google is working on making AI answers more transparent. When users hover over links within AI Overviews and AI Mode, a pop-up will show more information about the site before clicking. Soon, hovering over links in AI answers will also reveal preview pop-ups, giving a quick snapshot of the source content.
Google is also exploring ways to better integrate subscriptions from publishers. The company wants to work with publishers interested in testing a system that links a user’s subscription to their Google account. This could make subscribed content more prominent in AI responses, potentially increasing traffic to those sites.
These changes are part of Google’s effort to balance providing helpful AI summaries while supporting website publishers, who have expressed concern about traffic losses caused by AI tools.
