Jacobs Launches Digital Twin for Next-Gen AI Data Centers

Jacobs has introduced a new digital twin solution designed specifically for large-scale AI data centers. This virtual tool helps developers and owners plan, simulate, and optimize gigawatt-level AI facilities more efficiently. The goal is to speed up project timelines, boost energy efficiency, and improve ongoing operations and maintenance.

How the Digital Twin Works

The digital twin is built using the NVIDIA Omniverse DSX blueprint, blending a standardized design with a highly realistic virtual environment. It models key systems like compute, power, and cooling, creating a real-time digital replica of an AI data center. This allows teams to see how different components will perform before physical construction even begins.

One of the key features is secure integration of various elements inside and outside the data center. For example, it can simulate indoor airflow, indoor water systems, and on-site power configurations. By combining site-specific details with system data, users gain clear visibility from early planning stages through virtual commissioning, operation, and maintenance.

Benefits and Future Developments

Jacobs CEO Bob Pragada explained that building advanced facilities is becoming more complex and costly. As AI infrastructure scales up, owners need better tools to reduce risks and make confident decisions. The digital twin helps streamline planning, improve performance, and ensure long-term resilience.

The first module of this digital twin is now available to owners and operators. Future features are expected to cover the entire asset lifecycle, from initial design to construction and ongoing management. The company also plans to develop versions suited for smaller data centers, around 250 megawatts, making the technology accessible across the industry.

The modular design of the digital twin supports quick deployment of gigawatt-scale facilities in the real world. It’s part of a larger framework within NVIDIA’s Omniverse DSX blueprint, which aims to standardize the creation and operation of large AI data centers. Jacobs’ expertise spans industries like data centers, semiconductors, and life sciences, supporting some of the biggest names in these fields.
