Minitap Secures $4.1M to Accelerate Mobile Development with AI
Minitap, an innovative AI-powered mobile development platform founded by two 23-year-olds from rural France, has announced a $4.1 million seed funding round. The investment was co-led by Moxxie Ventures and Mercuri, with participation from EWOR, Tekton Ventures, Amigos Venture Capital, and six unicorn founders. Just four months prior, Minitap achieved a remarkable milestone by surpassing industry giants like Google DeepMind on the AndroidWorld benchmark, proving its potential to revolutionize mobile development.
Breaking Industry Benchmarks and Addressing Mobile Development Challenges
Within 40 days, the Minitap team beat top research labs, including Google DeepMind, ByteDance, Microsoft Research, and Alibaba, on the global AndroidWorld benchmark for AI-controlled mobile devices. Despite the advancements in AI tools for web development—where features can be shipped in days—mobile development remains significantly slower, often taking six weeks for a single feature. Minitap aims to close this gap by providing solutions that enable teams to build mobile features in days instead of weeks.
Current AI tools like Cursor and Claude accelerate web development but fall short for mobile, as they struggle with device testing, iteration during failures, and configuration verifications. Minitap addresses these pain points, offering a platform tailored to streamline mobile app experimentation and deployment.
Founders’ Background and Vision for Faster Mobile Innovation
Nicolas Dehandschoewercker, CEO and co-founder, reflected on their journey, saying, “We spent two years building our first viral mobile product, and I’m embarrassed by that timeline. Mobile accounts for 60% of internet usage but moves at just 10% of web speed. Consumer apps like Duolingo, Calm, and Hinge ship five times more experiments on web than mobile. We built Minitap to bridge that gap.”
Luc Mahoux-Nakamura, co-founder, added, “Every consumer mobile company needs to experiment faster. Companies running ten times more experiments will dominate their markets. We’re creating the infrastructure that makes that speed possible.”
The founders met in a small village in France, with Nico having a background in military school and AI research at Imperial College London, and Luc a child prodigy who built drone infrastructure at Rakuten. Their combined expertise spans mobile development, AI, and scalable infrastructure, positioning Minitap to fundamentally transform how mobile apps are built and tested.
