Syntys, a major data center provider in the Middle East, has announced a significant expansion in Qatar. The company has acquired Q Data QFZ LLC, which operates hyperscale data centers in the country. This move boosts Syntys’s capacity to serve cloud and AI clients across the Gulf region, addressing rising demand for digital infrastructure.

Details of the Acquisition

The deal includes two Tier III-certified, carrier-neutral facilities located within Qatar Free Zones. Syntys now owns these facilities, with 5MW already operational and an additional 7.5MW under development. Once fully live, the total capacity of Syntys’s data centers in Qatar will reach 26MW.

The seller is Doha Venture Capital, a subsidiary of Qatar Free Zones Authority. This acquisition allows Syntys to strengthen its presence in Qatar and expand its regional footprint. It also aligns with Qatar’s national digital economy goals by anchoring critical hyperscale infrastructure locally.

Strategic Importance and Industry Impact

This move comes at a time when cloud providers and AI platform operators face growing deployment needs across the Gulf. Ooredoo Group’s CEO, Aziz Aluthman Fakhroo, highlighted that the acquisition supports the company’s focus on investing in vital digital services. Sunita Bottse, CEO of Syntys, emphasized that the acquired assets are revenue-generating and meet high standards. These facilities are internationally recognized, Tier III-certified, and carrier-neutral, making them ideal for hyperscale and AI customers. The integration boosts Syntys’s capacity and capability in Qatar’s growing data market.

Future Plans and Regional Expansion

Bottse also noted that this acquisition is part of Syntys’s broader regional growth plan. The company aims to reach more than 120MW of total capacity across the Middle East and North Africa by 2030. The new assets strengthen its presence in a strategic market and support this ambitious expansion goal.

Established through the carve-out of Ooredoo’s regional data center operations, Syntys operates several facilities across MENA and beyond. Its portfolio now includes infrastructure supporting Qatar’s digital initiatives, such as the sovereign AI cloud launched in 2025. This cloud provides local access to advanced computing for both public and private sectors.
