Many organizations see a strong link between their DevOps maturity and success in deploying artificial intelligence. A recent report highlights that 70% of companies believe that mature DevOps practices significantly impact AI efforts. The 2026 State of DevOps Report, based on surveys of over 800 tech professionals worldwide, sheds light on how DevOps and AI are evolving together.

The Role of DevOps Maturity in Scaling AI

The report finds that companies with well-established DevOps processes are much better at integrating AI across their software development lifecycle. For example, 72% of high-maturity organizations embed AI into their workflows, compared to just 18% of those with low maturity. This shows that DevOps isn’t failing; rather, incomplete or immature DevOps practices hold companies back from fully leveraging AI.

Experts emphasize that DevOps lays the foundation for AI expansion. It encourages automation, strong collaboration, and governance, all of which are essential for successful AI projects. As a result, organizations with disciplined engineering and control mechanisms tend to turn AI into measurable business results, like faster feature delivery and improved customer retention.

Changing Roles and Skills in DevOps with AI

AI is also reshaping roles within DevOps teams. A large majority of respondents—87%—believe AI helps engineers focus less on scripting and more on system design and strategic outcomes. Testing, in particular, is undergoing a big shift, with over half of QA teams now focusing more on analyzing quality data rather than executing tests manually.

Developers are increasingly authoring tests directly, and QA teams are evolving into specialized Quality Engineering units that orchestrate across pipelines and environments. Business analysts are also getting involved in test creation, highlighting a shift toward higher-level oversight rather than routine execution. This role elevation is seen as a key benefit of integrating AI into DevOps workflows.

Overall, the report suggests that AI is not replacing DevOps but amplifying it. Organizations that combine disciplined practices with AI tools are better positioned to innovate at scale and turn technological advances into real business value. The future of DevOps and AI is about collaboration, automation, and strategic oversight, leading to more agile and competitive companies.
