SAP is expanding its commitment to data sovereignty in Europe by launching the EU AI Cloud, unifying previous efforts into a comprehensive platform. This initiative aims to provide European organizations with greater flexibility and control over their AI and cloud services, ensuring data remains within regional boundaries and complies with EU regulations.

Supporting Diverse Deployment Needs Across Europe

The EU AI Cloud is designed to cater to various preferences, whether organizations opt for SAP’s native data centers, trusted European providers, or on-premise solutions. This flexible approach helps meet different security and operational requirements while safeguarding data residency.

In addition to infrastructure, SAP is collaborating with Cohere to introduce advanced AI models, including agent-style and multimodal tools, accessible via the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP). These offerings enable industries with strict data residency needs to embed AI into daily operations securely and efficiently.

Partnerships and Deployment Options for Enhanced Sovereignty

SAP’s EU AI Cloud integrates models and applications from partners like Cohere, Mistral AI, and OpenAI directly into SAP BTP. Customers can choose to access these tools as SaaS, PaaS, or IaaS, and deploy them on SAP infrastructure or approved European providers, ensuring compliance with local laws.

The platform operates through SAP Sovereign Cloud, which offers flexible control levels—from infrastructure to applications. Data hosted in SAP’s European data centers or on-premise facilities remains isolated from US hyperscalers, bolstering sovereignty and security.

Additional deployment options include SAP Sovereign Cloud on SAP Cloud Infrastructure (EU), leveraging open-source tools within European data centers, and SAP Sovereign Cloud On-Site Infrastructure, managed by SAP but located at the customer’s chosen data center. There are also regional solutions like Delos Cloud in Germany, tailored for the public sector’s unique needs.
