Suse Launches Tool to Assess Cloud Sovereignty Readiness
Suse has introduced a new Cloud Sovereignty Framework Self Assessment tool to help organizations evaluate their compliance with upcoming EU regulations. The tool aims to identify gaps in digital sovereignty and guide companies on how to meet the 2025 EU Cloud Sovereignty Framework standards. It’s a web-based, user-friendly platform designed for self-service use, making it easy for teams to assess their cloud infrastructure quickly.
How the Assessment Works
The tool provides an objective Sovereignty Effective Assurance Levels (SEAL) score, which measures how well an organization aligns with the eight objectives set by the EU framework. These objectives cover key areas like supply chain security, operational independence, and data protection. The SEAL score categorizes organizations into five levels, from No Sovereignty to Full Digital Sovereignty.
Along with the score, the platform offers a detailed risk analysis that assigns weights to each sovereignty objective. For example, supply chain risks are given a 20% weight, while operational autonomy is weighted at 15%. This helps organizations understand where their biggest vulnerabilities lie and prioritize improvements accordingly.
Features and Benefits
The tool also includes a trust-based engagement feature, which stores results locally in the user’s browser to ensure privacy. Once the assessment is complete, users receive a clear, actionable roadmap for closing compliance gaps. This roadmap can be downloaded as a PDF, offering a concrete plan for organizations to follow.
Suse emphasizes that the tool isn’t just a measurement device. It’s also a guide to help organizations leverage Suse solutions and its European partner network for compliance and sovereignty enhancement. By simplifying the process, the platform makes digital sovereignty more accessible for companies of all sizes.
Industry experts believe that digital and AI sovereignty will be a major driver of private cloud growth in the coming years. With the EU’s new framework now in place, companies that fail to demonstrate sovereignty could face restrictions on their contracts and operations. Suse’s assessment tool aims to make meeting these standards easier and more straightforward.
