Teleport has announced a new product called Beams, a secure runtime environment for running AI agents in production. Beams aims to solve common security and identity management issues that teams face when deploying AI workflows. It provides isolated environments where agents can run safely without exposing secrets or sharing credentials.

What are Beams and How Do They Work?

Beams run each AI agent inside a lightweight Firecracker virtual machine. These virtual machines are fully isolated, with their own file system and network controls. Each Beam inherits a delegated identity, enabling it to authenticate with trusted services and data sources without needing secrets. This setup simplifies identity management and enhances security.

Every action performed by an agent in Beams is tracked and auditable. Teams can see exactly what data or services the agents access and when. This transparency helps improve security compliance and gives engineers full visibility into their workflows. Beams also handles networking with fine-grained control, allowing secure connections to internal and external services.

Addressing Challenges in AI Agent Deployment

Deploying AI agents in production can be complicated. Engineers often have to manually stitch together identity controls, infrastructure, and secrets. This process is time-consuming, error-prone, and lacks consistency. Without proper identity management, teams face risks around secrets leakage and difficult audit trails.

Beams simplifies this process by providing ephemeral, ready-to-use environments that are quick to start and secure by design. Developers can build, test, and deploy agents against staging environments without exposing sensitive data. For multi-agent workflows, Beams offers hardened isolation, making it easier to run complex pipelines securely.

According to Alexander Klizhentas, Teleport’s CTO, Beams removes operational hurdles by making security a built-in feature. Engineers can focus on developing AI solutions, knowing each agent has appropriate access controls and full audit logs. This reduces the friction often associated with bringing AI into production environments.

Use Cases and Future Plans

Beams is suitable for a variety of AI-related tasks. Internal agents that need access to production data can run safely within Beams environments. Developers building ephemeral workflows can do so without secrets exposure, improving security during testing and staging. Multi-agent pipelines that require strict isolation can also benefit from Beams’ reproducible environments.

Teleport plans to launch Beams as a minimum viable product (MVP) on April 30, 2026. Early access is available for interested engineers through registration on their website. The company will also showcase Beams at upcoming industry events, including RSAC and KubeCon, giving attendees a chance to see the technology in action.

Overall, Beams aims to streamline and secure AI agent deployment, making it easier for teams to innovate without compromising security standards. Its approach of isolated, identity-aware environments could set a new standard for AI infrastructure security and operational simplicity.
