Venmo has rolled out a major redesign aimed at making the app more private and user-friendly. The update focuses on giving users more control over who can see their payment activity, addressing privacy concerns that have come up in the past. The new look also adds features to make sending and reacting to payments quicker and easier.

Privacy Gets a Major Boost in the New Design

One of the biggest changes in Venmo’s redesign is how it handles posts and visibility. New users now start with their posts set to visible only to friends by default, rather than public. This means fewer unintended eyes on your transactions, a step toward better privacy. Users still have the option to change this to “just me” if they want complete privacy.

In the past, Venmo faced criticism after reports revealed that some user details, like friend lists, were publicly accessible. While the company added options to hide friend lists after those incidents, the default settings for post visibility now lean toward privacy. It’s not clear if the app will also default to hiding friend lists in the future, but the emphasis is on giving users more control from the start.

New Features Enhance Payment Interactions

The redesigned app introduces a fresh feed where users can see recent transactions and interact with them. Now, you can react to payments with quick emojis or messages, making the experience more social. There’s also a “Pay Again” button for repeat transactions, saving time when splitting bills or sending money regularly.

Venmo is also adding a “Give a Shoutout” button, which encourages users to promote local businesses or friends. This feature aims to make the app more than just a payment tool—turning it into a platform for supporting local commerce and fostering community connections.

The rollout of the new Venmo app has already begun, with more features expected over the next few months. The full redesign is planned to be complete by fall, giving users a more private, interactive, and convenient way to manage their money on mobile devices.
