Agent Rewind is built with technology from Predibase, a company Rubrik acquired this year. It’s designed to work with many AI platforms, including Salesforce’s Agentforce, Microsoft Copilot Studio, and Amazon Bedrock Agents, plus custom AI setups. The tool offers “context-enriched visibility,” meaning it shows detailed information about what an AI agent did, what tools it used, and why. Every action is linked back to its cause, whether it’s a prompt, a plan, or a tool used. This helps users understand exactly how and why mistakes happen.
The platform is part of Rubrik Security Cloud, which provides the ability to “rewind what changed.” If an AI agent accidentally deletes data, modifies a file, or alters a database, users can select a recovery point and restore everything to how it was before the mistake. The interface includes dashboards and maps showing active agents, their risk levels, and recent actions. Clicking on an agent reveals what it did, like deleting thousands of tickets or executing a dangerous command like “DROP TABLE.” From there, users can initiate a rollback to a safe snapshot.
Gupta, Rubrik’s chief product officer, explains that Agent Rewind makes AI actions transparent and auditable. It creates an audit trail and snapshots that can’t be changed, ensuring safe rollbacks. Early users are excited about this. Chad Pallett, CISO of BioIVT, says it’s exactly what the market needs. Johnny Yu, a research manager at IDC, points out that this is the first tool he’s seen that combines visibility into AI actions with a way to undo them quickly.
Why is this so important? Because AI agents are autonomous and unpredictable. Unlike simple chatbots that just retrieve information, these agents perform tasks on behalf of a person or organization. Mistakes can have serious consequences, from technical issues to legal problems or even catastrophic data loss. Before Agent Rewind, fixing these errors meant rolling back data using snapshots or restoring from backups. But those methods are slow and imprecise.
Current tools can show what went wrong, but they don’t tell you why or how to fix high-risk mistakes. This delays recovery and can cause bigger problems. Gupta notes that AI technology is still young and moving fast. Many companies rush to deploy AI without setting up safety measures first. This is similar to early cloud migration or container use, where unexpected costs or security issues led to re-evaluation.
Yu emphasizes that the real value of Agent Rewind lies in its ability to quickly and accurately capture and fix mistakes at scale. The bigger the impact of an AI error, the more useful the tool becomes. Businesses should consider their AI maturity level. If they are still testing or using AI in low-stakes environments, the benefits might be less urgent. But companies planning to use AI in critical operations should definitely pay attention.
