Apple Joins the $5 Trillion Club as Nvidia Slips Back

Apple has crossed a massive milestone. It became only the second company ever to pass a $5 trillion valuation. The event marked a big moment in the tech world. Apple’s shares hit a session high of $342.89 on Tuesday. This pushed its market capitalization to $5.04 trillion at the peak.
After reaching that high, Apple’s shares eased back slightly to $339.68. That still kept its valuation close to $5 trillion, around $4.99 trillion. Earlier this month, Apple overtook Nvidia to become the world’s most valuable company. Nvidia had held that top spot since June 2025.
Nvidia’s reign was strong. It briefly hit a $5 trillion valuation in October 2025. But its shares dropped 5% on Monday. That fall brought Nvidia’s market cap down to $4.77 trillion. Meanwhile, Apple’s shares rose 1% on the same day, pushing its market cap to $4.95 trillion.
So, Apple’s valuation surpassed Nvidia’s on Monday for the first time since April 2025. This shows a shift in investor confidence. Apple’s stock has jumped 24% so far this year. Nvidia’s shares have climbed only 4% during the same period.
Nvidia’s stock struggles have been clear. Its shares are down about 5% in a week. This drop means Nvidia is lagging behind the S&P 500, which is up 8% this year. Apple’s steady climb reflects investors moving away from AI stocks. Nvidia, a chipmaker tied to AI, has seen less enthusiasm recently.
Apple’s rise is tied to its strong market presence and strategic moves beyond AI hype. It has captured investor attention and gained significant market value. Reaching $5 trillion puts Apple in rare company. Only one other company has done this before.
This milestone highlights how big tech companies shift in value based on market trends. Apple’s climb suggests a confidence boost in its future. Nvidia’s recent dip shows how volatile AI-related stocks can be. The battle for the top spot is still very much alive.
