Apple’s Private Relay, meant to hide your IP address, is leaking it instead. Researchers found flaws in Apple’s browser engine that expose real IP addresses despite Private Relay. This service is part of Apple’s paid iCloud+ subscription and promises privacy while browsing Safari.
Security experts verified the leaks. Malicious websites can trick Private Relay users into revealing their true IP addresses. Even OnionBrowser, an iOS Tor app, suffers from these issues. Apple acknowledged the problem and said it is investigating.
Meanwhile, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket segment crashed into the Moon. The upper stage, weighing 4,000 kg, hit the lunar surface at 5,400 mph (8,690 km/h). The impact, equivalent to three tons of TNT, likely created a new crater near Einstein Crater on the Moon’s western limb.
This crash stemmed from a Falcon 9 launched in January 2025, carrying lunar landers. The rocket’s upper stage dumped all its fuel and drifted toward the Moon under solar and gravitational forces. NASA confirmed no danger to Earth and plans to track the impact site for research.
Space debris impacts on the Moon are rare but not new. Past incidents include a Chinese rocket stage in March 2022, NASA’s intentional crashes in 2009, and Saturn V stages in the 1970s. Recent failed landers include Russia’s Luna-25 (2023), India’s Chandrayaan-2 (2019), and Israel’s Beresheet (2019).
Back on Earth, the Department of Homeland Security is under scrutiny for mass social media surveillance. DHS has issued hundreds of subpoenas and pressured commenters to sign letters implying their speech could be criminal. Some companies, like Reddit, rejected these broad demands, forcing DHS to withdraw requests.
DHS allegedly targeted a Reddit user who called to “abolish” ICE and shared an ICE agent’s phone number. Agents reportedly confronted a poll worker over social media posts about ICE. Critics accuse DHS of conflating lawful political speech with threats.
The White House has pushed to label political criticism as threatening conduct. DHS uses AI to scan social media for pro-Hamas supporters and revoke visas. Cases include a Massachusetts graduate student detained over an article on Palestine and a Palestine activist involved in a Supreme Court case alleging U.S. agencies acted on tips from pro-Israel vigilantes.
Space debris remains a growing concern. The European Space Agency reports over 46,000 pieces weighing 17,000 tonnes orbit Earth. This Falcon 9 impact highlights careless disposal of leftover hardware in space. NASA will keep tracking the booster for training and scientific observation.
