Artificial intelligence is transforming the way businesses operate. A new report suggests that agentic AI—an advanced type of AI capable of interpreting and coordinating across multiple systems—could unlock a massive new market for SaaS companies. Bain & Company estimates this could be worth around US$100 billion in the United States alone.

The Untapped Potential of Coordination Work

The report highlights that a large portion of enterprise work involves manual tasks that span different applications like ERP, CRM, and support systems. These workflows often require employees to extract data, compare information, interpret messages, and make decisions about approval or escalation. Traditionally, rules-based automation and robotic process automation (RPA) have been used to streamline these tasks. However, they struggle with ambiguity and information spread across multiple sources.

Agentic AI differs by being able to interpret data from various sources, coordinate actions across systems, and follow policy guardrails. This means it can handle more complex, nuanced workflows that were previously difficult to automate. Bain emphasizes that this isn’t about replacing SaaS platforms but rather transforming labor-intensive coordination work into software-driven processes. Currently, vendors are capturing between US$4 billion and US$6 billion of this market, but over 90% remains untapped.

Market Size and Regional Opportunities

The potential market extends beyond the US. Bain estimates that countries like Canada, parts of Europe, Australia, and New Zealand could add similar-sized markets. When combined, these regions could bring the total addressable market to approximately US$200 billion. The market isn’t evenly distributed across enterprise functions. Sales activities, driven by the large number of sales employees, are estimated to be worth about US$20 billion. Meanwhile, areas like cost of goods sold, operations, R&D, engineering, customer support, and finance each represent between US$6 billion and US$12 billion in automation potential.

This substantial market opportunity is driven by the increasing need for smarter automation solutions that can handle complex, multi-source workflows. As agentic AI becomes more advanced and widespread, SaaS companies that develop or integrate these capabilities could see significant growth. The report suggests that businesses are already recognizing the value of automating coordination tasks, which could accelerate adoption in the coming years.

Overall, the rise of agentic AI signals a major shift in enterprise automation. It opens new avenues for SaaS vendors to expand their offerings and capture a large share of what could become a multi-hundred-billion-dollar market. Companies that act quickly to develop or adopt these technologies may gain a competitive edge in the evolving digital landscape.
