A group of software engineers has built OpenExecutive, an AI system designed to do the work of a CEO. Instead of helping one executive with a few tasks, the system brings several AI agents together and turns their output into one unified executive persona.

How OpenExecutive Builds Its CEO
OpenExecutive uses several of Anthropic’s Claude AI models. Claude Sonnet 4.6 serves as the default model, while Claude Opus 4.7 handles deep reasoning tasks. The system also recruits eight AI agents that act as different top-level executives, including a chief strategy officer, chief financial officer, and head of human resources.
Those agents do not operate as eight separate leaders. OpenExecutive combines their work into a single “executive persona” that functions as the CEO. The result is designed to give the company one central decision-maker while drawing on different areas of executive responsibility behind the scenes.
The system can learn from company documents, which gives it access to the material used to guide its recommendations. It also remembers its recommendations and decisions. That memory gives OpenExecutive a continuing role in a company rather than limiting it to one-off answers.
The team describes OpenExecutive as “a senior advisor with Harvard MBA-level knowledge.” The same description adds: “whether you believe that or not probably reflects how much stock you put in Harvard MBAs.” That wording points to one of the system’s central challenges: its value depends not only on what it can produce, but also on how much trust people place in an AI executive.
A Broader Push Into AI Leadership
OpenExecutive is not the only example of AI moving toward the top of an organization. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is building a CEO AI agent to help him do his job. He is also building a photorealistic AI clone of himself, creating another example of technology designed to reproduce parts of a leader’s role and presence.
That shift raises a direct question about who remains responsible when an AI system makes recommendations or decisions. A company can give an AI access to documents, executive functions, and a memory of past choices, but the facts here do not say that OpenExecutive removes the need for human oversight.
