New Full Trailer for Spider-Noir Revealed by Prime Video
Prime Video has released the full official trailer for its upcoming live-action series, Spider-Noir. The trailer was unveiled over the weekend at CCXPMX26 in Mexico City. Fans of Marvel’s noir universe now have a first look at the show’s dark and gritty take on the spider-themed hero.
Dual Versions of the Trailer Showcase Different Styles
The streaming platform shared the trailer in two distinct formats. The first is a black-and-white version, which has a classic, Raymond Chandler feel. This version emphasizes the noir film vibe with shadowy visuals and a moody tone. The second is a colorful version, called “True Hue” by the showrunners, offering a more vibrant look that still maintains the gritty aesthetic.
This dual presentation highlights the show’s artistic approach, blending traditional noir elements with modern visuals. It gives viewers a sense of the show’s tone and style even before it hits screens.
Background on Marvel’s Noir Line and the Character
The concept of Spider-Noir isn’t new. Marvel Comics launched its “noir” line in 2009, reimagining familiar characters in a darker, alternate universe. Most stories are set during the Great Depression era in the United States. A version of the Spider-Noir character appeared in the animated films Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and Across the Spider-Verse (2023). Nicolas Cage voiced him in those films, and he is set to return in the upcoming Beyond the Spider-Verse.
The live-action series is set in 1930s New York, but the main hero isn’t Peter Parker. Instead, the show focuses on Ben Reilly, played by Nicolas Cage. Reilly is a seasoned private investigator with a secret superhero identity, known as The Spider. The show’s official premise describes him as a “down on his luck” detective who must confront his past after a personal tragedy while navigating the dangerous streets of the city as its only superhero.
Oren Uziel, co-showrunner alongside Steve Lightfoot, is a big fan of film noir. He felt that the traditional Peter Parker character didn’t fit the noir vibe, as Parker is often associated with a younger, high school setting. Reilly’s character brings a more mature, hard-boiled detective angle to the Spider-Man universe, fitting the dark and gritty tone of the series.
