Ubisoft is getting serious about Far Cry again. After a quiet stretch since 2021, the publisher has greenlit a new project under the codename Kodiak. It’s being developed at Vantage Studios, a subsidiary focused on reinvigorating the franchise.
Kodiak promises to be a “really ambitious” open-world first-person shooter, though it’s still years away. The new game will build on lessons from a canceled title, Maverick, but will drop the extraction shooter idea. Meanwhile, Ubisoft is still actively working on the next mainline Far Cry, known as Blackbird, expected to be Far Cry 7.
Ubisoft’s finances are under pressure. The company reported weaker revenues for Q1 2026, with income down nearly 14 percent to 268 million euros ($305 million). Net bookings fell nine percent to 256 million euros. The lack of a major release during the quarter played a big role. Ubisoft’s stock tumbled more than 14 percent to 4.73 euros and has lost 26 percent of its value since the start of the year.
They recorded a staggering net loss of 1.5 billion euros for 2025-6. Ubisoft is cutting costs aggressively, closing studios in Winnipeg and Belgrade, and laying off staff in locations like Barcelona. Their goal: slash expenses by at least 200 million euros over two years.
On the bright side, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced exceeded expectations, selling 3.5 million copies within two weeks. Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot said the launch “exceeded the annual expectations we had.” The company expects net bookings to rebound to around 370 million euros in Q2 but still forecasts a high single-digit drop in full-year bookings and operating margin.
Elsewhere, Amazon’s game chief, Jeffrey Gattis, confirmed the delay of Tomb Raider: Catalyst from 2027 to 2028. This pushes back one of the more anticipated titles in the franchise.
EA Sports is gearing up for the September 25, 2026 launch of EA Sports FC 27. The game will be available across PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Pre-orders for the Ultimate Plus Edition close August 31, priced at £139.99, offering early access from September 18 and various bonuses. The Ultimate Edition costs £99.99, and the Standard Edition ranges from £59.99 to £69.99 depending on platform.
EA is promoting “The Grounds,” a social playground where players create footballers, explore districts, and challenge others. The game also boasts improved dribbling, passing, shooting, defending, and goalkeeper AI to make matches feel more responsive and realistic. Career Mode has been enhanced through a partnership with TransferRoom for greater realism. Cover stars include Kylian Mbappé and Jude Bellingham for the Ultimate Plus Edition.
