As artificial intelligence tools like DeepSeek become more common, security experts are increasingly worried. Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) are feeling the pressure from the rising risks these technologies pose. Once seen mainly as a boost for businesses, AI now raises serious concerns about safety and security.

Growing Concerns Among Security Leaders

A recent survey of 250 UK CISOs at large organizations shows that four out of five believe AI tools like DeepSeek need urgent regulation by the government. Many security chiefs see these tools as a double-edged sword—offering benefits but also new threats. As AI tools become more widespread, companies face threats on an unprecedented level.

The survey highlights the challenges CISOs face in keeping up with rapidly changing threats. More than half predict an increase in cyberattacks linked to the spread of AI tools like DeepSeek. In response, some organizations are banning certain AI applications or pulling back on specific deployments to reduce risks.

The Risks Linked to AI Tools Like DeepSeek

The main concern with platforms like DeepSeek is their potential to leak sensitive company data or be exploited by cybercriminals. These tools handle data in ways that can undermine corporate privacy and security policies. Many CISOs report that DeepSeek is already complicating their efforts to protect their organizations.

In fact, 60% say that AI tools are already challenging their privacy and governance frameworks. This has shifted many security leaders’ views—42% now see AI as a bigger threat than a help to their defenses. The growing presence of AI in cyber threats has made safety measures more complex than ever before.

The Call for Urgent Regulation and Action

Industry experts are calling for tighter rules around AI tools like DeepSeek. Andy Ward, a security executive, warns that the rise of these AI platforms creates a dangerous situation. He says that many organizations are not yet prepared to handle the risks, especially as attackers also start using AI to breach defenses.

The need for government regulation has become clearer. Without proper oversight, AI tools could be used maliciously, leading to a potential national cyber crisis. Experts agree that timely policies and rules are essential to prevent AI from becoming a weapon for cybercriminals and to protect critical infrastructure.

Overall, the increasing use of AI tools like DeepSeek has sparked a debate about safety, regulation, and how to balance innovation with security. As more organizations recognize the risks, the push for urgent action is likely to grow—aiming to better safeguard society from emerging AI-driven threats.
