YouTube just made thumbnail creation for Shorts less painful. The platform rolled out new tools letting creators upload custom thumbnails for Shorts. This long-requested feature is now live for YouTube Partner Program members.
Creators can add thumbnails retroactively to existing Shorts using YouTube Studio on desktop. They can also pick from three suggested frames pulled automatically from their videos. On mobile, they get full freedom to select any frame as the thumbnail. No more guessing which frame will snag clicks.
The real game changer is Ask Studio, YouTube’s internal AI tool. It now generates thumbnails tailored to each video’s themes and style. YouTube says, “Thumbnails created will be tailored to your video’s specific themes and to your specific style.” This AI chatbot lets creators chat to build thumbnails that fit their content perfectly. It’s a sleek shortcut past tedious frame hunting.
Meanwhile, DeeVid launched Viral Studio, an AI platform aimed at short-form creators, brands, and agencies. It analyzes video links or uploads to generate creative prompts and visual references. Viral Studio can swap out characters, products, backgrounds, even clothing in videos. DeeVid stresses it’s for analysis and adaptation—no direct copying or redistribution.
DeeVid puts it bluntly: “Successful short-form content is rarely driven by luck alone. Hooks, pacing, shots, and visual presentation all affect viewer retention. Viral Studio helps creators learn from effective structures and adapt them into original work for their own goals.” This tool turns video breakdowns into actionable creative starting points.
On another front, Google added selfie video login for accounts. Users set it up on the My Account page under Security & sign-in. They must turn their head in specific ways during verification and every login. Google encrypts the selfie video and uses it only to help sign in. Users can delete the selfie video later—except Workspace, child, and Advanced Protection accounts, which have no delete option. Google calls it “another way to use your face for identity verification.”
Finally, CapCut earned recognition as a leading AI productivity tool for faster video and image workflows this year. This underscores the rise of AI-powered editing tools across the short-form content ecosystem.
YouTube’s new thumbnail features and AI tools signal a shift. Creators get smarter automation and more control to craft eye-catching visuals that boost Shorts performance.
