AI in Healthcare

Candid Health’s Big AI Bet and Other July Highlights

Candid Health just raised $120 million in a Series D funding round. The goal is to build AI-powered healthcare billing and revenue cycle automation. This software helps hospitals and clinics handle the financial side of care. It focuses on billing patients and insurers.

Sixth Street Growth led the funding round. Oak HC/FT, 8VC, and Y Combinator also joined in. This new funding triples Candid Health’s valuation. The company grew revenue by 190 percent year over year in 2025. That’s a huge jump for one year.

The healthcare industry spends roughly $280 billion every year on revenue cycle management. That means billing and payment processes cost a lot. Candid Health wants to cut those costs using AI and automation. The software aims to make billing simpler and faster for providers.

Portland’s E-Bike Record and NBA 2K27 Cover Stars

In other news, Portland set a Guinness World record for the largest-ever e-bike ride. The event had 1,060 cyclists. That number more than doubled the previous record held by Seattle. The Portland Bureau of Transportation organized the ride, showing strong community support for e-bikes.

Meanwhile, Derrick Rose earned his first solo NBA 2K cover. He fronts the Ultra Edition of NBA 2K27. Rose previously appeared on the NBA 2K13 cover but shared it with others. Now, he gets this solo spotlight.

Rose reflected on the journey, saying, “It’s crazy looking back at being on the NBA 2K13 cover to now having my own edition for NBA 2K27.” He also praised the coaches, teammates, and fans who supported him. Rose hopes to inspire young athletes to stay obsessed with the game and work hard.

Derrick Rose played 16 years in the NBA and was the youngest MVP in league history when he won in 2011. The Bulls retired his No. 1 jersey earlier this year. The Ultra Edition with Rose joins the Standard Edition featuring Victor Wembanyama and the Deluxe Edition with Caitlin Clark.

Political Spotlight on Iowa Democrats

Rob Sand is running for governor in Iowa as a Democratic candidate. His campaign is drawing more attention to Iowa Democrats’ chances statewide. However, Mandara Meyers, executive director of the States Project, issued a cautionary note.

She said, “There’s a little bit of this sense of, ‘Rob Sand is this once-in-a-generation candidate, he’s going to win and suddenly he’s going to be able to wave a magic wand and transform the politics of Iowa.’ … But you have no real teeth to your ability to actually improve the politics and improve lives in your state without that legislative power, too.”

This means that even if Sand wins, he will need support in the state legislature to push real change. Political experts say improving lives depends on broader power beyond just the governor’s office.

These stories show a mix of tech, sports, and politics shaping July. Candid Health’s AI push could reshape hospital billing. Portland’s e-bike ride proves community power. Derrick Rose’s solo NBA 2K cover celebrates a long career. And Iowa’s politics remain a complex game with many players.
