Google just rolled out a new way to log into your account. Instead of typing a password, you can now use a selfie video. This fresh option asks you to move your head in certain ways during verification and every time you sign in. It’s a bit like a biometric dance that confirms it’s really you.
To get started, you’ll need to set up this selfie login on Google’s My Account page. The process may also ask you to use a camera or scan a QR code with your phone. Google promises the selfie videos are encrypted and only used for sign-in verification. If you change your mind, you can delete your video anytime from your account.
But Google didn’t stop there. They also launched Google Vids, a feature that lets you create AI-generated videos of yourself. By uploading a selfie and a voice clip, you can produce what’s called a “personal avatar.” This digital version of you can speak any script you type out. The system uses Google’s Gemini Omni model to generate and edit these clips just by using natural language commands.
WhatsApp and Signal Get New Tricks
WhatsApp, owned by Meta, made signing up easier for iPad users. Now you can create an account with a username, not just a phone number. Registration still requires your phone number to get a one-time passcode, but you no longer need to link directly to your digits. This update arrived on July 22, 2026.
WhatsApp also improved its interfaces for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Now, you can view and edit PDFs within the app using Adobe Acrobat tools. Another fun addition lets you set songs as your status from Apple Music or Spotify.
Meanwhile, Signal is testing a new feature for Android users. It lets you link an Android phone or tablet as a secondary device. This means you can keep one Signal account synced across multiple Android gadgets, complete with your chat history. To link the devices, you scan a QR code shown on the secondary device with your main one.
Google Contacts and User Info Sharing
On Android, Google Contacts is getting a “Your info” card. This card displays your details in one place. It also lets you share your info easily with contacts. It’s a small but handy update for managing your personal data on your phone.
All these updates show a clear focus on making tech more personal and convenient. From selfie logins to AI avatars, and easier account setups, the goal is to blend security with new ways to interact. The future feels more visual and connected, with less hassle and more control.
