How Context-Driven AI Is Changing Cybersecurity Operations

Mate Security just closed a $35 million Series A round, pushing its total funding past $50 million. The startup launched publicly less than a year ago, kicking off with a $15.5 million seed round that was oversubscribed. Since then, its revenue has surged by more than 500% since the third quarter of 2025.

What sets Mate Security apart is its focus on context. The company believes AI recommendations only work well when backed by solid information. Its platform uses a patent-pending context layer to build what it calls a Security Context Graph. This graph shares governed organizational knowledge in one place.

This approach lets AI agents analyze security events with a deeper understanding of how a company actually operates. It supports third-party and customer-built agents all running from the same trusted knowledge base. That means security teams can rely on AI that truly “gets” their unique workflows and policies.

“When we started Mate, we knew we had to invest in the foundation: context and trust, and build them deeply into our product,” said Asaf Wiener, Mate’s CEO and co-founder. This foundation aims to rebuild security operations centers for the AI era, where attacks move fast and scale is huge.

Building Trust in AI Security Agents

Trust is a major theme across AI security today. Mayank Upadhyay, Chief Security and Trust Officer at Snowflake, argues trust can’t be a one-time decision at login. Instead, it must be checked continually across every agent and action in an enterprise.

Snowflake itself announced Cortex AI Gateway on July 28, 2026. This is a centralized control layer that governs how AI agents access enterprise data, tools, and models. It helps companies control AI spending by showing a unified view of AI use and enforcing limits. Snowflake also acquired Natoma in May 2026 to improve identity, policy, and audit controls at the tool-call level.

Snowflake’s dual attribution system logs both the AI agent’s verified non-human identity and the human who authorized the task. Task-scoped access ensures agents only get data needed for a specific job. This limits risks from over-permissioned AI tools.

Security leaders like Nancy Wang, CTO of 1Password, stress that AI agents need their own identity. She warns against agents having full admin access. Chandra Gnanasambandam, EVP of product at SailPoint, points to common enterprise identity failures. These include shallow controls at scale, data drift, and missing context — all big problems against AI threats.

Other Innovators in AI Security

Mate Security is not alone in this space. Glow, an endpoint security startup, raised $180 million at a $1.2 billion valuation on July 22, 2026. Glow came out of stealth with major funding, focusing on securing endpoints as AI tools spread rapidly across corporate devices.

7AI is another key player. Founded in 2024 and backed by $166 million, it offers AI-native security operations. Its platform has conducted over nine million investigations, saving more than one million analyst hours. 7AI recently announced two new capabilities: 7AI Federated SIEM, which lets teams query data wherever it lives, and 7AI Build, which allows partners to create AI-native security workflows and services.

7AI supports three models: deploying AI security directly, running with 7AI’s help, or building on the 7AI platform. The company will demonstrate its products at Black Hat USA 2026 from August 4–6. Mate Security will also exhibit there, from August 3–6, showing how context and trust can reshape SOCs.

As Yonatan Striem-Amit, 7AI’s CTO, puts it, “Every enterprise has its own tools, policies, workflows, risk tolerances, and institutional knowledge. The platform must understand that context and let customers build on it.” This mirrors Mate’s core belief that AI in security must be rooted in real organizational context to work well.

With AI tools growing fast, the challenge is clear. Companies need security platforms that combine deep AI understanding with continuous trust verification. Mate Security and others are betting this approach will rebuild security operations for the AI age.
