How Players Are Claiming GTA 6 Without Paying Retail

GTA 6 can cost nothing if patience is your payment method. Multiple Reddit users have shared success stories involving free pre-ordered copies, with one player using Xbox Mastercard card points and another relying entirely on Microsoft Rewards. The catch is simple: nobody is escaping the price so much as converting other spending or routine online activity into store credit.
The game’s Standard Edition retails for $80, while the Ultimate Edition costs $100. That gives the rewards route a clear target, especially for players who want the more expensive version without paying for it directly.
Microsoft Rewards Turns Routine Tasks Into Game Credit
Financial_Specific24 got a free copy by using card points from the Xbox Mastercard. User Automatic_Ad1665 took a different route, accruing Microsoft Rewards points through everyday tasks and using them to cover the game without adding a direct purchase to the bill.
Microsoft offers ways to earn Rewards online and on Xbox. On the Xbox mobile app, players can tap their profile picture, open the Rewards tab, and access Quests. Those Quest points receive a multiplier with a Game Pass subscription: two times for Premium and PC Only subscribers, and four times for Ultimate subscribers.
Players do not need to be gaming to collect points. The Microsoft Rewards dashboard includes polls, quizzes, and Bing searches, while setting Bing as the default search engine and using the Bing app can provide more points and multiplier streaks. It is not glamorous, but neither is paying full price when a dashboard wants you to answer quizzes first.
The numbers demand patience. According to the available figures, 100,000 Microsoft Rewards points are roughly equivalent to $1, and players need to accrue 100,000 points to trade them for a gift card that can cover GTA 6 at no cost. The stated exchange figure makes the system difficult to parse, but the reported method remains the same: build the balance, redeem a gift card, and apply it to the game.
The $399.99 Box Still Does Not Include GTA 6
Rockstar offers another way to spend money around GTA VI, though it will not help anyone obtain the game for free. The GTA VI collectible box costs $399.99 and includes a 6-inch figurine of Macca the Gator with a stash compartment, a matching spoon, a magnetic mirror, GTA-branded Oakley sunglasses, a hat, a crossbody bag, a shot glass, stickers, pins, and a souvenir poster.
It also includes a “swizzle stick,” because apparently a fictional criminal empire needs barware. What it does not include is the game itself. Rockstar states, “Grand Theft Auto VI game sold separately.”
That price is higher than the earlier collectible sets: GTA IV cost $90, while GTA V cost $150. Rockstar lists the game separately for $79.99 or $99.99, matching the reported prices for the Standard and Ultimate Editions.
The contrast is hard to miss. One path asks players to complete quests, answer polls, search with Bing, and accumulate enough Rewards points for a gift card. The other asks for $399.99 before the game purchase even begins.
There is also a separate request circulating from Cowboy, who is seeking an old DVD and code for Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. That is a much older form of game ownership: find the disc, find the code, and hope the box has not vanished into somebody’s attic. For GTA 6, the modern version is less romantic but more practical—turn points into credit and let the store handle the rest.
