Out-of-band management interfaces must stay off the internet and away from production networks. BMCs, iLO, iDRAC — all must live in dedicated, firewalled VLANs with super restricted access. Leaving default passwords or exposing BMCs online is rookie-level risk. Yet, over 86,000 BMCs expose management services publicly right now.
The lesson? Security teams must treat these controllers like high-value vaults. The stakes are huge. One slip could open doors to entire systems.
AMD’s Open-Source Gambit Rocks the AI Chip Race
AMD is rewriting the rules for AI chip development. Instead of locking down software, AMD is opening its doors wide. Its ROCm platform is fully open source. Anyone can use, download, or tweak it for free. This open approach is a game changer against Nvidia’s closed ecosystem.
AMD’s open-source contributions grew tenfold in the past year alone. It’s not just talk. AMD teamed up with AI giants OpenAI and Anthropic to push ROCm forward. Kirk Saban, AMD’s VP, said, “The power of the open source community is just unprecedented.”
AMD’s senior VP Salil Raje added, “We believe in getting the ecosystem to work with us, and we will use the same kind of strategy in the physical AI and robotic space.” That means open software will fuel future AI chips and robots. AMD’s latest chips are already hailed as the best for AI agents, thanks to this open strategy.
The market agrees. AMD’s stock surged about 193% over the past year. Nvidia’s stock rose roughly 20% in comparison. AMD’s gamble on openness is paying off big time.
SpaceX’s Starlink Takes Flight and Shakes Up Airlines
SpaceX isn’t just launching rockets. It’s launching Starlink into commercial skies. SpaceX president Gwynne Shotwell revealed customers now choose shorter flights with Starlink internet, even if it means more stops. “Actually, I would like to add an extra flight to my trip,” she said. MrBeast, the YouTuber, echoed this trend from April 10, 2026: “Most people haven’t used it, but in Antarctica it was our only signal.” He also said, “Starlink is amazing,” and that he’d book flights based on Starlink availability, even with layovers.
SpaceX has deals with 13 airlines but hasn’t confirmed all partnerships publicly. What we do know: American Airlines will bring Starlink to 500 planes. Southwest, Virgin Atlantic, Iberia, and Aer Lingus also have agreements. Delta Air Lines, however, does not.
SpaceX’s recent earnings call on August 5, 2026, revealed big growth. Quarterly revenue hit $7.8 billion, up 92% year-over-year. Enterprise and government contracts made $1.8 billion of that. Yet, SpaceX posted a net loss of $541 million. This was their first earnings call since going public in June. Despite beating revenue expectations, shares fell after hours and are down 30% since IPO.
Looking ahead, SpaceX plans to turn Starlink Mobile into a full carrier, aiming to challenge AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. Elon Musk outlined bold plans including data centers in space, lunar factories with robots, and a possible $1 trillion annual revenue by 2029.
