Wimbledon’s AI Upgrade Brings Smarter Match Insights in 2026

Wimbledon is stepping up its game with new AI features for the 2026 Championships. The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) is working with IBM to add smarter tools to the Wimbledon app and website. Fans can expect these updates starting Monday, June 29, 2026, when the first-round matches begin.

The main new features include an upgraded Match Chat assistant and a fresh tool called Key Moments. Match Chat lets fans ask questions in plain English about what’s happening on court. It answers instantly using live data, past player stats, and match analysis. Some answers even come with photos and videos to give a clearer picture.

Key Moments digs deeper into the game. It highlights key points and stretches that sway the match’s outcome. This builds on Wimbledon’s previous Likelihood to Win feature, offering richer insights. It’s available for every gentlemen’s and ladies’ singles match.

Behind the Scenes of Wimbledon’s AI Push

IBM’s partnership with Wimbledon is more than just adding flashy features. It’s part of a five-year plan to modernize Wimbledon’s digital platform. The goal is to bring critical services and data back in-house. This reduces technical debt and lowers costs for the club.

IBM said this work enables an AI operating model, boosting the Wimbledon team’s productivity. Jonathan Adashek, IBM’s Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications, said the partnership aims to deepen fan engagement and speed up innovation. He highlighted how AI tools like IBM watsonx and IBM Bob help unlock new levels of efficiency.

The technical update was impressive. Over 15,000 content assets were extracted into a new digital architecture. It took one engineer just four weeks, with the actual extraction process lasting only 47 minutes. This overhaul supports the new AI features and improves overall platform performance.

Fan Engagement and Growth at Wimbledon

Wimbledon’s digital reach is huge. Last year, about 730 million people engaged with the Championships. They generated 18 billion impressions across digital channels. AELTC figures from 2025 show a 16% rise in engagement across all platforms year-on-year. Meanwhile, registrations for the myWIMBLEDON platform grew by 39% in one year.

Earlier versions of Match Chat were used at Wimbledon and the US Open. They served around 1 million users with an average response time of 6.25 seconds. The 2026 upgrade expands data sources and adds multimedia to selected responses, making the experience even richer.

Usama Al-Qassab, Marketing and Commercial Director at the All England Club, said, “It’s our priority every year to remain at the pinnacle of sport and deliver the best possible guest experience of The Championships.” He emphasized this applies to fans watching in person and the hundreds of millions following online.

The 2026 Championships run from Monday, June 29, to Sunday, July 12. Fans will get to enjoy smarter insights and more interactive tools throughout the event.
