Windows June Update Fixes Security but Breaks Key Features

Microsoft released a major Windows update on June 9, 2026. The patch, known as KB5094126, fixed 208 security flaws. This included 38 critical vulnerabilities and three zero-day exploits. One of these, CVE-2026-41091, was actively exploited in the wild. The update aimed to improve system security across all Windows versions.
Despite the security fixes, the update caused a wave of new problems. Users reported system freezes happening within minutes of startup. Some PCs failed to boot properly, showing black screens or entering recovery mode. Others were forced into BitLocker recovery loops, locking users out of their own devices.
The BitLocker lockouts hit enterprise hardware hard. Models like the HP EliteBook 840 G10, HP ProBook 460 G11, and Dell Precision laptops were affected. These devices often rebooted directly into the BitLocker recovery screen after installing the update. Many were effectively unusable until recovery keys were retrieved manually from Active Directory or Microsoft Azure AD.
Recycle Bin Glitches and OneDrive Failures
The update also broke how the Recycle Bin displays file names. Instead of showing the original file name, the confirmation dialog now shows internal identifiers like “$R4ABC12.” This bug affects many Windows versions, including Windows 11 builds 26H1, 25H2, 24H2, and 23H2, Windows 10 22H2, and several Windows Server releases dating back to 2012.
Microsoft publicly confirmed the Recycle Bin issue on June 18. They said a fix would arrive on July 14. Yet, the company has not updated its official documentation or its Release Health Dashboard to reflect the problem quickly. This delay has left many users frustrated.
On top of these, OneDrive stops working on domain-joined PCs. When users click OneDrive, it returns blank results instead of their files. Microsoft has not acknowledged this issue publicly. Other reported problems include loss of local area network connectivity and broken Office automation, likely tied to changes in the Windows kernel, win32kfull, and NTFS driver.
Mixed Responses and Recovery Options
Microsoft’s official notes do not mention the widespread issues caused by KB5094126. The company has not publicly addressed Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) or boot failures related to the update. Despite numerous user reports and enterprise complaints, many bugs remain unacknowledged.
The good news is users can uninstall the update through recovery options. Removing KB5094126 typically restores normal system operations. This step is crucial for those stuck on the BitLocker recovery screen or facing constant freezes.
This update shows how complex patching can be. Fixing a record 208 vulnerabilities is a big task. But it also means changes can ripple across many parts of Windows. Until Microsoft releases fixes for the bugs, users and IT teams will need to stay cautious.
