From Lab to Grid: The Fusion Roadmap

CFS isn’t dreaming—they’re building. Their demonstration reactor, SPARC, targets scientific breakeven by 2027. That means it will produce as much energy as it consumes. So far, only one fusion machine ever hit that milestone: the one at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

But SPARC is just the start. CFS plans to build a commercial fusion plant named Arc in Chesterfield County, Virginia. They’ve already started receiving permits for Arc. The goal is to have Arc feeding clean energy into the grid by the early 2030s.

Arc has big customers lined up. Google committed to buying 200 megawatts of electricity—half the plant’s output. Eni, the Italian energy giant, signed on to purchase over $1 billion worth of power. These deals show real demand for fusion’s promise.
