Meta Horizon+ subscriptions now include Xbox Game Pass starter edition. This means subscribers gain access to over 50 games and 10 hours of cloud gaming each month. That’s a tidy boost for anyone already invested in Meta’s VR ecosystem.
Meta Quest’s Touch controllers will soon emulate an Xbox gamepad. This could simplify controls for Xbox Game Pass games on the platform. It’s an obvious move to blur lines between VR and traditional gaming, but still worth noting.
Meanwhile, Nvidia’s RTX Spark PCs are gearing up to host Sega titles including Virtua Fighter. Sega has been on Nvidia’s partner list since May, joining big names like Capcom, CD Projekt, Konami, and Xbox. The lineup also includes heavy hitters like Fortnite, League of Legends, Valorant, and Alan Wake II.
Meta also unveiled a new lineup of glasses starting at $299. They come in three styles—Adventurer, Starfire, and Fury—with a 12-megapixel camera and microphone. Despite delivering the same functions as its pricier Ray-Ban models, the glasses don’t feel as premium. Battery life claims exceed eight hours, but real-world use is closer to four and a half.
The glasses feature a programmable action button for quick access to Meta’s assistant and a new dynamic capture photo setting. Meta is working on pedestrian navigation and powers AI on these glasses with its latest Muse Spark model. Conversation Focus, an AI subscription, limits free use to three hours monthly unless you pay $20.
Privacy concerns persist. Meta announced a firmware update to disable cameras if users tamper with the LED light. Still, bans on Meta glasses are growing in sensitive spaces like courtrooms. The Meta ∞ logo makes privacy debates unavoidable and keeps the spotlight on the company’s branding.
Roblox is also jumping into AI game creation. Its new Build feature lets users create interactive experiences with natural language prompts. Build enters public alpha in New Zealand on July 28. Players aged nine and up can use the tools, while creations passing safety checks will be available to users 16 and older. Initial age verification glitches have caused some headaches.
Netflix announced a new game, Netflix Minigolf, launching July 28. It’s a pinball-meets-minigolf mashup with courses inspired by Stranger Things and Squid Game. Around 300 Netflix titles have already used generative AI in some form, hinting at growing AI integration in gaming.
Meta’s subscription upgrade, Nvidia’s Sega deal, and new AI-powered tools from Roblox and Netflix show the gaming landscape shifting fast. Meta’s push into glasses and VR controls signals a broader strategy to own more of the immersive experience, while cloud and AI gaming continue to expand their reach.
