Pixel Watch 5 Brings Cuff-Free Health Tracking and Longer Battery Life

Google has announced the Pixel Watch 5, a smartwatch that adds new health tracking features, longer battery life, and a faster processor. The biggest changes focus on blood pressure trends, insulin resistance, sleep, and workouts.

The Pixel Watch 5 can track blood pressure trends without an inflatable cuff. It uses sensors and machine learning to spot patterns over weeks and months, then can alert users when their blood pressure is trending upward. The watch can also monitor insulin resistance trends over the course of a month.

Health tracking moves beyond single readings

These features focus on changes over time rather than one isolated measurement. Blood pressure tracking follows patterns across weeks and months, while insulin resistance monitoring covers a month. That gives the Pixel Watch 5 a way to present longer-term health trends from information gathered during daily use.

The watch also tracks minute-by-minute changes in blood oxygen levels while users sleep. Its smart wake alarms can wake users at the optimal point in their sleep cycle, linking overnight monitoring with a more personalized alarm experience.

The Pixel Watch 5 does not present health tracking as its only purpose. It can sync with the Google Health app to build and track workouts, and it supports more than 50 sports and exercise types.

Workout tools and smarter everyday features

During exercise, the watch can provide audio and visual cues, while allowing users to make changes in the middle of a workout. That means a session can be adjusted without stopping the entire activity, whether the user is following a planned routine or moving between different exercises.

GPS tracking is also more accurate, especially on trails and around tall buildings. Those improvements target places where location tracking can be harder, giving the Pixel Watch 5 a stronger role during outdoor exercise and city workouts.

The watch can surface information proactively based on phone activity, connecting what is happening on the phone with information shown on the watch. Some Gemini commands can also work offline, so selected voice-based functions do not always need an active connection.

Faster performance and a battery built for longer days

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated chip powers the Pixel Watch 5. Google says it delivers 20% faster processing than the Pixel Watch 4, which supports the watch’s health, fitness, location, and assistant features.

Battery life depends on the case size. The 41mm model lasts up to 30 hours with the always-on display, while the 45mm model lasts up to 40 hours. Battery saver mode extends those figures to 48 hours for the 41mm model and 72 hours for the 45mm model.

A short charge can also add useful time. Charging the Pixel Watch 5 for 15 minutes provides an additional 15 hours of use, giving users a way to recover a full stretch of battery life without waiting through a long charging session.

Pixel Watch 5 price and release date

The Pixel Watch 5 will be available for pre-order and go on sale on 20 August. Google has set different prices for Wi-Fi-only and LTE versions, with both options available in the 41mm and 45mm sizes.

  • The 41mm Wi-Fi-only model costs £369.
  • The 41mm LTE model costs £469.
  • The 45mm Wi-Fi-only model costs £399.
  • The 45mm LTE model costs £499.

The result is a Pixel Watch built around longer-term health information rather than simple activity counts. Blood pressure and insulin resistance trends sit alongside sleep oxygen tracking, smart wake alarms, workout guidance, improved GPS, and offline Gemini commands. With faster processing and up to 72 hours in battery saver mode on the 45mm model, the Pixel Watch 5 aims to stay useful across more of the day.
