Pokémon Unite’s Final Match Is Set for March 2027

Pokémon Unite is coming to an end. Service for both the mobile and Nintendo Switch versions will stop on March 23, 2027, at 00:00 UTC, which is 8PM ET on March 22.
That gives players a final stretch with the five-on-five battle arena game before its servers close. Built by Tencent’s TiMi Studios, Pokémon Unite launched on Nintendo Switch in July 2021 and arrived on mobile a few months later, with cross-platform play connecting the two versions.
The shutdown closes a game built around short team battles and familiar Pokémon. Players choose a Pokémon at the start of each match, then watch their monsters evolve and learn new abilities as the game progresses. The format has often been compared to League of Legends, placing Pokémon inside a multiplayer online battle arena built around teamwork and competition.
What happens before the shutdown
Gem sales have stopped, and new Unite Club memberships and auto-renewals are no longer being accepted. Gems that players already purchased will continue working until the service ends, while existing Club members can keep their perks until their memberships expire.
The game will receive one final update on November 12. That update will add a special farewell event, giving players a last in-game moment before Pokémon Unite goes offline.
It will also introduce a Library feature. The Library will let players keep viewing some of their in-game items after the end-of-service date, but they must log in before the final date to download the Library data. The data will be stored on the player’s device, and The Pokémon Company says it “generally cannot be transferred” to a new one.
That detail makes the timing important for anyone who wants to keep access to the items included in the Library. Players cannot wait until after the shutdown to download the data, and moving it to another device may not be possible.
A changing place in Pokémon competition
Pokémon Unite’s competitive future had already begun to change before the shutdown announcement. In July, The Pokémon Company said the game would not be part of the 2027 Pokémon World Championships. Instead, the company chose a separate tournament in Tokyo.
That Tokyo event is still scheduled, with qualifier tournaments starting in December. The decision placed Pokémon Unite on a separate competitive path even as its regular service now heads toward its final date.
For players, the remaining months will bring a clear end point rather than an open-ended season. The November update, the end of gem sales, and the Tokyo tournament all mark different stages in the game’s final chapter.
Pokémon’s next in-person experience
While Pokémon Unite is preparing to close, The Pokémon Company is planning a new permanent retail presence outside Asia. A Pokémon store is set to open in London by 2029, and the company says more locations outside Asia will follow.
The London location will be the first of several permanent stores outside Asia and will carry exclusive merchandise. Pop-up Pokémon shops have appeared in London before, including one at the Natural History Museum earlier this year during the Pokémon European International Championships.
Gaku Susai, chief product and experience officer at The Pokémon Company International, said, “We are always exploring new opportunities that help us create unique and memorable experiences for our fans.” He added that the London store will give visitors the chance to step into the world of Pokémon, whether they are discovering the brand for the first time or have been Trainers for years.
The company plans to reveal details about other physical locations in the future. The move also recalls Pokémon Center New York, which opened in 2001 before becoming Nintendo’s flagship physical store four years later.
For Pokémon Unite players, though, the immediate focus is the countdown to March 23, 2027. The game’s final update arrives on November 12, its purchased gems remain usable until shutdown, and the Library requires an earlier login to preserve selected in-game items. After that, the five-on-five battles on mobile and Nintendo Switch will be over.
